Weekend Writing Warrior – 8/11/13

Today’s post comes for M is for Melting– my contribution to Love Letters Volume 4: Travel to Temptation (August 5th from Carina Press).

~~~~~
On impulse, she turned to face him, hoping to catch him unaware just once. But the small smile that curved his lips told her he knew exactly what she wanted. “Kiss me.”
The whispered command was all but swallowed by the sound of waves lapping at the sides of the boat, but Luca smiled as he obliged. He kissed her slow and sweet, exerting only enough pressure to let her know his feelings toward her were anything but gentlemanly, but proving he was the perfect specimen nonetheless when he broke the kiss seconds later.
“Do you like kissing me as much as you hoped?” He corralled a wayward strand of hair that clung to her damp lips and tucked it behind her ear. “Was it worth the trip, my Samantha?”
Weekend Writing Warrior – 8/4/13
Today’s post comes for M is for Melting– my contribution to Love Letters Volume 4: Travel to Temptation (August 5th from Carina Press).
~~~~~

“Hello, my American girl-friend, Sam.”

She whirled in her seat but a rogue breeze tossed her hair into her eyes. Clawing it away, she zoomed in on the smiling man beside her table. This was no Cary Grant wannabe. No, Luca Camilleri was more of a George Clooney/Gerard Butler mix, without the gray hair or Scots burr, but with the smiling eyes and laugh lines fanning from the corners.

“Please tell me you are my good friend Sam and I’m not making a fool of myself in front of a beautiful woman.” His voice dropped to a hush. “Lie to me, if you must.”

New release!

A bad boy gone good and a good girl who wants to be a bit bad….

August Awakening_Maggie Wells

August Awakening (Hot Nights in St. Blaise #8)

The only things Jennifer Clyburn admits being addicted to are Caramello bars, shoe sales, and diet cherry Cokes from the Sonic. But there is one advantage to being ordered to attend alcohol awareness classes—she gets to spend a good hour each week ogling local bad boy, Alex Stephenson.

Once the crowned prince of St. Blaise, Alex grew up spoiled rotten and cocky as hell. The world was his oyster up until the day everything spun out of control. The red Corvette he got for his eighteenth birthday was a total loss. So was the sixteen-year-old girl in his passenger seat.

Ten years later, scarred and broken, Alex is back in St. Blaise leading the local recovery meetings and hoping to spare someone the guilt and grief he’ll carry with him the rest of his life.

Jenny Clyburn seems to be the kind of good-time girl he used to love, but he’s smart enough to recognize the demons that drive her. Her smart mouth is temptation incarnate, and her docile nature a siren song. Unable to resist, Alex takes it upon himself to teach her the best ways to master her impulses and surrender to that which she can’t control.

“I want you, Jenny Clyburn, even though you’re everything I don’t deserve.”

He carried her knotted fingers to his mouth and pressed a firm, damp kiss to the back of her hand. A fine webbing of blue-green veins mapped her translucent skin. “But I can’t help but think maybe we might be good for each other, too,” he said quietly. “I need to be in control to survive.” He trailed his fingertips over the curve of her jaw to the hollow of her collarbone. “You need someone to take the weight off your shoulders.” His body tensed, ready to spring the moment she gave herself over to the possibility.

Weekend Writing Warrior – 7/21/13

This week’s selection comes from the next installment in the Hot Nights in St. Blaise series – August Awakening.

“Being afraid and living in fear are two different things.”

Her soft hand in his, he carried it to the collar of his shirt then slid her fingers under the fabric. The second her fingertips grazed the ugly raised scar on his shoulder, her lips parted. He held his breath, every nerve ending in his body screaming her name when she caressed the gnarled skin. Moths circled the porch light she’d left burning. Even the frantic fluttering of their wings wasn’t enough to stir the thick air. His toes braced against the stair riser, he exhaled a bit of his trepidation and attempted a reassuring smile.

“Afraid is a temporary thing, but fear never goes away.”

Weekend Writing Warrior & Contest!

Before I start, I just want to show off the fabulous 5 lip bite review MsRomanticReads gave the Hot Nights in St. Blaise series (So far!) I’ve been sharing bits of these with you all along and we’ll get back to St. Blaise next week.

For today I have another tasty tidbit from Rescue Me, the short story I wrote for the Smokin’ Hot Firemen anthology AVAILABLE NOW from Cleis Press.

The tag line for my story is: When a hot firefighter breaks down the wrong door, a smart woman drops her towel. :)

~~~~
“Gotcha. You’re tough as stale beef jerky.”
Her eyes widened then danced. She let loose a breathy laugh and turned toward the fridge, shaking her head in dismay. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to snap at you. It’s been a stressful night.”
“What with getting your door kicked in and being hoisted up and carried around stark naked?”
~~~~

Be sure to comment on this post and I will give away a copy (trade paperback) of Smokin’ Hot Firemen! I will draw one name from all comments posted before 11:59pm July 16, 2013. Thanks!

SmokinHotFiremen_opt[1]

Who can melt any woman’s heart with a single smile? The sexiest icon of all—a fireman!

They enter fiery structures with selfless courage–the very definition of the word “hero.” Women understand their allure… A soot-covered face, sweat dripping from hard, chiseled muscles, the sharp snap of suspenders—yes, only a fireman can make suspenders sexy! Delilah Devlin’s burning-hot book includes thrilling stories teeming with gorgeous firemen from some of today’s hottest romance writers.
