I write anyway.

I don't mean this to sound flippant. I'm simply saying: I don't experience writer's block. I write every day. If I miss, which is extremely rare (ask my wife), I'm miserable and cannot wait for the next day's writing time.

The trick is to allow yourself to suck. Be ok with writing poorly. Enjoy the process. . . and then, just realize you will not publish everything you write.

I agree with Bukowski, if it doesn't burn a hole in you... if you're not dying to do it, and every day. . . you may need to ask the Muses for a different job.(less)
Nathan Brown Adam and Eve on the old TV show "Northern Exposure." Their absolutely wonderful insanity that illustrates the insane wonders of love and relationship.

The five stars are for the content.
I love Bukowski. That's all there is to it.
And, I'll admit that it is interesting to look at
John Martin's idea of what constitutes Buk's Best.
John knew him well. I think that likely matters.

In the end, however, my o

When I feel like I'm getting a bit soft in the middle,
losing the some of the muscle in my writing...
I turn to, say, Bukowski, to rev up the engine.

One of the ways I judge a book is by how busy it keeps my pen scribbling, drawing arrows, and writing things like “Holy @#$%!” in the margins.

Going off that scale, my reaction to Beth Wood’s Ladder to the Light is “This is it! This is what all those

What else is there to say...

That book, when it comes along,
is very... very... rare. At least for me.

That book in which every... damn... poem
knocks me out. That book... the one where
I sit there and read each poem two, three,
or four times before moving

This is it.
This is what I look for in a book of poetry.
Almost every... single... poem in here now has
some kind of star, asterisk, and/or margin note.
Bilgere just kept them coming with unrelenting
goodness, laughter, and occasional gut-wrenching.

What struck me on this second reading--
after the first in grad school 15 years ago--was
1) What a young writer Kerouac was in this book. . .
2) How extraordinarily often he used the word "suddenly. . ."
3) How profoundly sad the book becomes around the
