Cathleen Townsend trained as a social scientist, and at various times has been a teacher, a waitress, a donut baker, and a construction worker. She's survived parenting, scuba-diving with a Mako shark, and a plane crash.

Her stories, both whimsical and serious, are drawn from the rich sources of folklore and history to inspire the belief that a single person can make a difference in the world, even if that world contains a dragon or two.

Cathleen lives in California’s beautiful gold country, and in her mind, dwarves and pixies also lurk in the oak- and pine-covered hills. She enjoys chatting with readers on her blog at cathleentownsend.com.

We can do anything at all in our world as long as we make it entertaining. That's an awesome superpower.(less)

If you're stuck, sometimes it's a sign that something is wrong but you can't articulate it to yourself.

Or it could just be a sign that I'm tired, creatively. In that case, I write something, anything, even if it's junk. Then I go read something that's truly good.(less)

D.L. Finn, author of Dolphin’s Cave and Bigfoot

This review is a double-header. I started with Bigfoot, and it made me curious enough about the author’s work to go back for seconds. : )

Bigfoot short story cover

Is Bigfoot real? The only witnesses who seem to believe it are usually quoted in newspapers that feature Elvis sightings and UFOs. When was the last time you went to a party and some ordinary Joe pulls up a chair and says, “Guess what? I saw a Bigfoot today.”

“If you really want perspective,
you have to step outside and back away.
If you spend all your time trying to stay in the picture,
you might forget that you're only a small part of that picture.
Step out and study the other parts of the whole.
If the piece that is you doesn't fit, find a new picture to be a part of.”

Veronica Dale Thanks for being my friend on Goodreads. Your blog on the overuse of certain words was right on. Even after many revisions, some great crits by my beta readers, copy editing and proofreading, I still found a repeated word that could have been changed.
