May 15th 2015:

I’ve been busy this month with preparations for National Flash Fiction Day, which is on Wednesday 22 June, 2016. Concurrent flash fiction events will be running in Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington; see here for details: NFFD Events. It will be a fun event, with short-listed, long-listed writers reading their work, overall and regional winners announced, as well as readings from guest speakers. In Auckland, our emcee is writer Rosetta Allan, whose historic novel Purgatory, was published in 2014: Purgatory Book Review

And watch out here for the long-list and short-list announcements for the 2016 National Flash Fiction competition (entries closed 30 April, with >500 entries received!): NFFD Competition 2016

And my big news for the month: I’ve just signed a contract with the Frances Plumpton Literary Agency Frances Plumpton LIterary Agency, for my YA book – so hopefully there will be a publication coming out of it! Watch this space!

Haere ra – for now!

Here’s my first official post – in this blog, I aim to tell you a little bit about what’s going on in my writing world. I’ll be blogging once a month minimum, maybe more often, so tune in for updates here, especially on the flash world!

At the moment: I’m waiting impatiently for the results of the second-ever Bath Flash Fiction award, to be announced 29th February (UK time). I can’t wait to see the new winners, and to read their flash pieces.

I’m also waiting for the next issue of Flash Frontiers – the February issue is an international issue (theme: Dance) and is due out any day now: http://www.flash-frontier.com. It’s always a good read.

I’m looking forward to organising the Auckland event for National Flash Fiction day – enter this competition if you’re an NZ resident  – up to 3 entries; 300 words: https://nationalflash.wordpress.com for details.

Coming soon: a link to a podcast via The Other Stories, featuring a reading of my story ‘Champagne Like Water, Water Like Champagne’, published in F(r)iction last year, and my interview by Ilana Masad.
