Camille recently left an award-winning real estate career in San Antonio to become a full-time writer. Along with her husband of 22 years, she home schools their four children. She has a bucket list that is never-ending, and uses her adventures to inspire her writing. She's lived in Texas, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and California, and spends enough time in Hawai'i to feel like a local. She's traveled to four continents (so far), and met Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II. She just about fainted when she had a chance to meet her musical idol, Paul McCartney, too. Camille studied political science in college, but found working on actual campaigns much more fun. She overdoses on goodies at farmers markets (justifying them by her suppo ...more

I'm so glad that you enjoyed the book! My inspiration for The Memory of Us was the Beatles song "Eleanor Rigby". It shuffled through my iPod one day, and although I'd heard it many times, it struck me differently. I started to think about the characters - who was this old priest? Who was this old woman? Why we're they lonely? Then...what if they'd known each other and had a history? I set it in Liverpool as an homage to the Beatles and counted back a few decades from the release of the song in 1966 and found that their youth would have been right during WWII. So the idea for the story started to be mapped out.(less)

My publisher will be releasing my next book, BEFORE THE RAIN FALLS on May 2, 2017. It's quite a different story, as it's set in Texas, and has three points of view. It involves a mysterious portrait, to sisters, one murder, and a town in desperate need of hope. I would love to write a novella that is a companion piece to THE MEMORY OF US, but it is just a spark of an idea right now.(less)

Writing by the Numbers

Hello, readers!

I have been sitting in front of this screen for awhile thinking about what I’d like to say for my website’s first blog post.  I’d love for it to be witty!  Engaging!  Moving!

I’ve got…nothing.

Guess what – that is the life of a writer.  Or, the majority of it.

Sure, I’d like to say that its glamorous, and that life is a daily inspiration that feeds the art and the words flow and the fi

This was a fun middle-grade (not YA) read that should easily connect with young readers while giving their parents and grandparents something to reminisce about. A book about dreams, friends, frustrations, and creative ways to make things happen.

I am a bit conflicted about how to review this book. On one hand, the prose exceeded even its exquisite cover. There were moments where I just sighed at the beauty of the story or the words assembled. And the ending - perfect!! But - there were so ma ...more

“My own monsters were self-concocted fits of overthinking.”
Camille Di Maio, The Memory of Us

“You are my vocation. I was made to love you, protect you, through the good and bad, and through every vow that will be asked of me.”
Camille Di Maio, The Memory of Us

“I thought of our family, sometimes, as a tapestry: a perfect blending and weaving of colored threads that produced an enviable picture on our surface, while underneath we were a tangled maze of knots and stitches, colliding and separating in our own directions, united only in the mandate to keep the outward appearances lovely.”
Camille Di Maio, The Memory of Us
