Has This Ever Happened to You?

The window next to my desk needed to have the caulk fixed.

This has been on my list for months. I set all the stuff I would need on a shelf next to the window to remind me to do it.

I also needed re-caulk a small strip in the bathtub. That one was easy, so when I was finished I was all heady with my ability to caulk and decided to do my window.

I figured it would be quick. One hour and I would be done.

Well, in the process of removing the old caulk, I flaked off a big strip of paint. Trying not to panic, I tried to clean that up and I gouged a chunk out of the drywall.

Then I had a project. It wasn’t dire. I knew how to fix it but it involved finding things like drywall spackle and tools. And I had to find something to cover the floor. Then I had to find the paint. After considering how dangerously I wanted to live I had to find my painting clothes.

It took most of the day but it looks nice now and hopefully I did the caulk right and will enjoy a better seal on my window.

Here’s the update: I have the edited manuscript and am putting the final touches on it. You can read an excerpt from Chapter 1 here.

There has been a delay in the cover, so we don’t have a publication date yet. I’m aiming for the first half of November.

But Not yet

sharp

I lied again. I still don’t have a cover or a sample chapter.

I did get the blurb up on the front page if you missed it.

Urban Indian Romance — a point of view that doesn’t exist in romance which is amazing considering how many romance books are out there. I’m planning a series of four in this story sequence.

I also updated this site and rearranged a few things. Does that count?

Getting closer.

The Teasing Will End Soon

come

I know, I know. I’ve been saying this all summer but FOR REAL: by the first weekend in October I will have news.

There will be a cover and a blurb and a best guess release date.

Hang in there with me!

These Are All The Things I Need To Do

Finalize manuscript
Update the front page
Update the FAQ
Update everything about this website
Remember how to do a newsletter
Send out a newsletter
Implement early promotion ideas
Keep lists of other things as they come up

There have been enough setbacks on this project that I’m tempted to think it’s jinxed. But I’m not going to.

I should fun stuff to share soon.

Any intensive updates to this site are going to have to wait as I am suffering from too much screen time.

Don’t give up. Something soon.

Book Report

tomato

This is the tomato of disappointment. I picked one on Friday and an identical one today. My tomatoes are pitiful this year.

I expect to have some fun book news in a couple of weeks.

The August Meat Grinder

pinkdahlias

I finished my reader draft last week and sent it out to my lucky (?) first readers.

I still don’t have a title. I still don’t have a cover. I still don’t have stock photos for the cover. I’m supposedly working on that myself but my efforts haven’t been successful so far. I will write a post about this at some point.

I’m going to work on getting a little teaser going for here soon.

The day after I sent out the manuscript, I went on an extra long weekend trip to St. Louis and Kansas City with my sweetheart. The last few days when I was spending every possible waking moment finishing my manuscript I kept saying: I promise I’ll pay attention to you when we go on vacation.

And I did. We had a great time. We did historical stuff and touristy stuff and took naps. I saw my sports team play. I ate BBQ and drank local IPAs. I was completely screen free except for my phone.

We’re still on schedule for a mid-October release.

We Have First Draft (Almost)

garden

Garden report: This is the back garden which is loaded with pumpkins because I composted a big bowl of pumpkin seeds. Right now the yard is filled with gold finches who love the sunflowers. I have a couple of green tomatoes about the size of a grape. The beets are ready. We had company today and I made a huge potato salad from backyard potatoes.

I guess I forgot to post last week.

That’s probably because between job, drafting and life I am working about 70 hours a week and I’m frayed around the edges.

The first draft is at 71,000 and I need to go through about 8 more chapters plus check on one story thread before it goes off to the beta readers.

I *still* don’t have a title but I have a few ideas. I also still don’t have cover models but that’s a completely separate problem that I may elaborate on later.

I’m looking forward to hearing from my first readers and finalizing this draft and getting it out in the world.

I’m still on target for mid-October.

First Draft Progress Report

apples

I don’t know what’s going on with this photo. I took it in nice lighting but it looks like I took it in a cave. The apple tree is loaded this year.

The good news is, I’m about three quarters of the way through the first draft.

The bad news is, I haven’t done any other non-essential life activities.

I just remembered I have a newsletter. I should probably remember how to do that and send out a note to update my loyal readers.

Soon. Very soon.

Here’s the URL to sign up Pamela Sanderson Newsletter of Intermittence. Don’t worry, I won’t flood your inbox or share your info with anyone.

Another Three Minute Update

A question for the FAQ: How old is Shelly?

35

I have been a writing machine. My poor husband saw me once yesterday at the dinner table. Once the draft gets off to beta readers I will have lots of updates. (If you’re interested in beta reading send me a note. I might need one or two more.)
