Be advised: I am an award winning author.

The first was a medal I received in high school. I was a finalist in a national essay competition I hadn't entered. My English teacher sent my essay in—when she pressed the dime-sized award into my palm I was dumbfounded. I threw it into a small wooden box with a bar along the bottom to lock it, on top of a stack of small-denomination (but colorful) foreign paper money my uncle had sent when in the military overseas, iron-on patches—one proving I'd attended "hunter's safety." Another for pedaling my dirt bike thirty miles for multiple sclerosis while wearing a straw cowboy hat and a denim jacket—a wineskin full of gatorade strapped across my chest, snake-bite kit deep in my jeans pocket. The best writing happens when you are editing. Once you have your ideas down, where you can move them around and massage them, your brain will chew away at the rotten bits and nurture the good stuff. You'll begin to solve problems when you're not in front of the computer. If you can't fix it, cut it. If you can't cut it because it's your favorite part, delete it ... re-write it from memory, and start from there. When I lose work now, I know it is fate telling me what I'd written was crap. Put it back. It will be better the second time, or the third. When it's ready, you will feel it. (less)

My last "non writing" job, before I took the leap, was as the Chief Nursing Officer for a hospital ... theoretically an eight-hour-a-day job—

(It wasn't.)

Now I might glance at the clock at two in the morning and blink in surprise. I've found the job I love! But still that isn't the BEST thing. The best thing is finding the perfect word ... I find that I'll blaze through a few paragraphs, then stare at the cursor. It's that point underwater when you need a breath ... the moment when you see the taillights of the car just ahead ... then, (Yes) the word! When you get it right, you know it. At that moment it doesn't matter that it's two AM. Right then, for me, the process pays off. (less)

I finished this book because I like Jason Matthews, and if you read his first book, "The Red Sparrow," you would understand why.

However, I didn't give the sequel a 5/5.

To me, "Palace of Treason" has three parts:

1. The first 15% of the book was rep
