Chapter 1

Message: Difficult, fierce, dangerous, and hard to endure times are coming; we cannot avoid, ignore, or escape them. Even though God has promised us no weapon formed against will succeed, we’ve got to do our part. Just like all the promises God has given us, we are to be active participants. In this case, we are called to confront those problems head on. They are not just going to disappear without a fight! God expects us to use what He has given us and trust that He will guide us into victory. inhuman possibilities was David’s battle with the giant Goliath. There are three things we can learn from this biblical example.

WE NEED TO FACE THE BATTLE. WE NEED TO FIGHT THE BATTLE. WE NEED TO FINISH THE BATTLE. FACE IT, FIGHT IT, AND FINISH IT.

FACE IT

Then David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.” (1 Samuel 17:32)

So, first and foremost, we have to face…confront… enter…and fight the battle. You know why? You can’t escape it. David, said, “Somebody’s got to face this situation. It isn’t going to go away.” Tammy Baker wrote a book called, “You’ve Got to Run to The Roar.” Lions roar. When the other animals hear that roar, it paralyzes them and makes them easy prey.

That’s what Satan does, too. 1 Peter 5:8 warns us, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour”

Sunday Snippet: Consuming Fire: An Alexa Silven Novel by CB Hoffman

Today’s Sunday Snippet is from the Christian Mystery & Suspense novel Consuming Fire: An Alexa Silven Novel by CB Hoffman and edited by Dan Hoffman. It was published by C B Hoffmann LLC; 4 edition (February 22, 2018) and is available as a Kindle ebook (ASIN: B07B1M9W14), audiobook (ASIN: B01MU80J68) and paperback (ISBN-13: 978-1980382683).

About Consuming Fire: An Alexa Silven Novel by CB Hoffman

Alexa’s turbulent but secretive past haunts her as she attempts to escape a mysterious blackmailer while maintaining her growing celebrity as a fashion designer. But her skills as a former Olympic sharpshooter target her as the blackmailer’s chosen assassin to clear the path for his black market art scam. She buries herself deeper into a hole of murder and intrigue as she struggles to unravel the identity of her blackmailer before he exposes her violent past – or she is apprehended by the FBI.

Consuming Fire: An Alexa Silven Novel, by C.B. Hoffmann, the first eBook in the Alexa Silven Trilogy, is a captivating story of forgiveness, repentance and reconciliation, these Christian Fiction novels are free from sex, drugs and cussing, but are packed with action, mystery and suspense.

book cover blog post cover art image Consuming Fire: An Alexa Silven Novel Kindle Edition by C.B. Hoffmann (Author), Dan Hoffmann (Illustrator, Editor)

Chapter One from Consuming Fire: An Alexa Silven Novel by CB Hoffman

She was accustomed to coming here; she was an assassin embroiled in a sultry web of blackmail and deceit.  The risks were burgeoning, jeopardizing her life, her career, her very soul, if she still had one. Desperate to find links of cohesion in the blackmailer’s binding and lethal contracts, she knew she would have to uncover any related details that she could access in each victim’s background.  And though her intent purpose was to eliminate the controlling influence behind these hits, the truth remained that acquiescing to the foreboding demands of an anonymous extortionist was making her not only an accomplice but was threatening the core of her very being. And ultimately, Alexa Silven had to concede that this was not the normal career of a fashion designer, nor was it the reason she’d spent an eternity in training to become an Olympic sharpshooter. She became tenacious that she would not continue to be this ogre’s hired gun; her career and wellbeing depended on it! And her career ambitions should not have attracted dangerous liaisons; she needed to discern the root and identity of this evil entity that was pervading her life.

Nonetheless, there she was, hiding outside the familiar payoff site following her recent hit, as she waited impatiently for the police activity to subside in the city, which she knew could possibly take an hour or more. In her quest to reveal her blackmailer’s true identity, she decided to start right then and there to not only recall details of her recent past, but to discern possible clues as to why he ensnared her in this perilous venture. So, where did this nightmare begin? Alexa had to go back to that night.

She closed her eyes and vivid memories of her inevitable quarrel with her father flooded her mind.

She was fresh out of college and wanted to take an internship to train in one of Paris’s top design houses – against her father’s plans for her to compete in the Olympics as a world-class sharpshooter. He was a preacher who’d lost his focus.

Alexa’s thoughts wandered back to the present, not only searching for details that could help her discover how Angelo knew so many facts about her, but wanting exoneration from the crushing guilt she carried in her heart each and every day.

She remembered her childhood home in Florida – she and her father arguing over her career ambitions. He confronted her with her approved French work visa and her secrecy about fashion training in Paris. She argued that he had tunnel vision and wouldn’t have listened.

He’d demanded for the Olympics to come first and that she was throwing away his dreams – ones that were deferred when he got drafted before he could compete.

Alexa asked him how she was going to make a living as a sharpshooter and reminded him it was only a hobby but fashion designing was her career choice. But it was irrelevant to her father. He’d called her a self-seeking ingrate! Their conflict ended in one inevitable burst of his temper and reprehensible lack of self-control.

She had crossed the line and there was no retreat. Her dad grabbed her regional trophy from the mantelpiece and waved it menacingly in her face. Defiantly, she had turned to her mother for support.

Brett Leboff: Staying Sane In The Music Game

Brett Leboff  is today’s guest on The Segilola Salami Show podcast. About Brett Leboff

author brett leboff talks about his mental health issues on podcast the segilola salami show cover artBrett Leboff has spent 20 years (and counting) in the music business, firstly as an artist,

drumming in bands and as a manager.

Never being one to tread the obvious path, he walked away from his own management

company and his biggest signed artist (who was touring the world), and went on an

adventure which culminated in raising money to buy sound equipment in order to start a

music event on a coexistence project in the West Bank, with Israelis and Palestinians; an

incredible experience.

Once back in the UK he was invited by Diplomats of Sound, a well-known music booking

agency to create an artist development arm with an eye on an ethical and progressive

approach. As well as this adventure he embarked on a campaign of self-development, firstly

adopting 1.5 years of regular psychotherapy, then engaging with the Mankind Project,

Vipassana (10 day silent meditation retreat), iEvolve, Tantra and Sexual Deconditioning

workshops.

Quote from Brett about the book he wrote – “The purpose of life is to learn, grow and face

challenges, and I started viewing my life and career from an aerial viewpoint, making course

corrections and some hard life choices that perhaps I had been avoiding. It gave me a fresh

perspective on everything I had seen before in my career with artists and prior to that,

being an artist myself, which led me to write this; a book about staying sane in the music

game. In an industry that has to keep reinventing itself it’s important to keep supporting

artists and this manual shares the stories, rituals and tools I’ve used over the years.”

Brett himself has suffered from crippling mental health issues in his formative years

particularly when drumming but also as a manager. He has learned to overcome these on

his journey and he will allude to them in the talk. The focus of the talk will be overcoming

the challenges of working full time in the music industry, how to keep on top of mental

health and stay in control of our heads when the pressure is on!

About Michael J Black

Aspiring to share his passion for life through writing, Michael Black reveals

intimate details of his lifelong journey through the pages of his new tell-all book,

“Happy Endings and a New Beginning.” out now. Michael was born in Southern

California and grew up with a lot of family around him. At eight years of age,

his family moved to Northern California to a small town a couple of hours from

the Oregon border. He lived there with his mother, brother and new step-dad in

a small town with small town values.

Unfortunately those small town values did not attach themselves to every person

that Michael encountered. As such, Michael now speaks openly of the many

years he endured sexual abuse by several different pedophiles, along with his

sexual orientation and the struggles that illuminated because of his choices. He

struggled to live two separate lives as he had been raised in a home and church

where homosexuality was looked down upon but still tried to live his own truth.

In order to cope with the mass confusion festering in his young mind, Michael

casually began using street drugs, which led him to a fourteen year affair with

those same drugs and more. It darkened his life path. At age 33, Michael’s

high-life partying came to an abrupt end, leaving him hospitalized and sober. He

began looking to his Higher Power to sort out his life that was in a state of

ruin. Now, years later, His light shines as Michael shares his personal journey

of mayhem over the years, how he met and fell in love with his wife and gives

each one of us hope for a better tomorrow.

“My hope and prayer for this book is by highlighting my own choices, others might become a little cognizant of their own…..choices that is. I encourage others to think before acting. I am a work in progress” – Michael J Black

Sunday Snippet: Yoga for Beginners: 60 Basic Yoga Poses for Flexibility, Stress Relief, and Inner Peace by Susan Neal

Today’s Sunday Snippet is from the Health, Mind and Body Reference book Yoga for Beginners: 60 Basic Yoga Poses for Flexibility, Stress Relief, and Inner Peace by Susan Neal. It is a 136 paged book published by Christian Yoga, LLC in 2016 and available as an Amazon Kindle ebook (ASIN: B01L9UIT70) and a paperback book (ISBN-13: 978-0997763638).

Chapter 4 from Yoga for Beginners: 60 Basic Yoga Poses for Flexibility, Stress Relief, and Inner Peace
blog post banner Sunday Snippet: Yoga for Beginners: 60 Basic Yoga Poses for Flexibility, Stress Relief, and Inner Peace by Susan NealHealth Benefits of Yoga

Many people today have a disconnection within their body, preventing it from working to its full potential. Stress, brain fog, muscle pain, and poor metabolism are just a few symptoms that result from this disconnection. Are you being held back from your full potential? Chronic disease and being overweight are typical for many people today, but that does not have to be the norm. Yoga will help your body function better, and you will become healthier!

Look at the benefits of performing yoga:

Enhances Muscles Tone, Definition, Strength, and Physical Fitness

Muscles become well-defined, and the additional strength helps to prevent injuries.

Increases Range of Motion in Joints

Seniors in my yoga class say that yoga prevents muscle and joint stiffness, and they rarely miss a class.

Prevents Cartilage and Joint Breakdown

The full range of motion performed during the poses supports joints.

Enhances Coordination and Improves Reaction Time

Muscles become stronger and leaner, and your balance, coordination, and even reaction time improve.

Increases Overall Flexibility

The flexibility of your spine improves your posture, which makes you look younger! It also keeps the spinal disks supple.

Relieves Muscle Pain and Tension

Stretching muscles, ligaments, and tendons reduces muscle pain and tension.

Eases Pain

Several medical studies have shown that yoga reduces back pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and other chronic conditions. One of my clients told me that she took less pain medicine for fibromyalgia the days she attended a yoga class.

Eases Stress, Tension, and Anxiety

Yoga creates inner peace, so perform yoga instead of taking anti-anxiety medication.

Improves Depression

Some studies have found yoga increases serotonin levels, which makes you feel happier!

Improves Memory

Focusing on the breath and the present moment, through meditation, enhances concentration, and memory.

Eases Migraines

Yoga has been found to help with migraines, so try yoga before medication.

Deepens Sleep

No more tossing and turning, just sound sleep.

Improves Lung Function

Usually one does not think about respiration, but during yoga class you do. In turn, this enhancement gives you more energy and vitality!

Improves Circulation

Exercise increases the heart rate, and this delivers more oxygen to the whole body.

Lowers Blood Pressure

Medical studies have proven that doing yoga decreases blood pressure.

Reduces Blood Sugar

Studies have shown diabetics’ blood sugar drop through the practice of yoga.

Reduces Bad Cholesterol (LDL) and Boosts Good Cholesterol (HDL)

Studies have demonstrated that the practice of yoga can decrease LDL and increase HDL.

Improves Metabolism

Have you ever thought your metabolism does not work as well as it should? Give it a jump start with yoga.

Relaxes the Body Systems

Focusing on deep breathing throughout the session increases blood flow to all internal organs which lowers breathing and heart rate.

Boosts Immunity

Many of the yoga postures stimulate the lymph system to drain toxins out of the body, which heightens immunity.

When you feel better about yourself, you will make healthier choices and begin reaching your ideal weight. In fact, most people think I am ten years younger than my actual age. I attribute that to practicing yoga for over 30 years. So look younger, feel better, and do yoga!
