Steve Evans is a mental health therapist by trade, social worker and psychologist by training and education. First graduating from Bluffton University with duel undergraduate degrees, he subsequently obtained his Masters from The Ohio State University. They are both still taking his money. An avid reader and aspiring writer of all things speculative fiction, he has written numerous science fiction and fantasy short stories, one novel, and has another book coming down the pike. He has a beautiful and amazing wife who thankfully decided to marry down in life, and two awesome kids too innocent to know how big of a dork their father is. Life is good. They live in Sandusky, Ohio...because.

The most significant strength a newer writer can posses is the ability to perceive and even grow from rejection. It is going to happen, and happen a lot. It's human nature to be bummed when rejections come in like chain letters, but rejection happens for a lot of reasons. Accept them at face value, treasure the ones that offer insight and advice, and even though it's natural to treat one of your own works almost like offspring, know that objectivity almost always trumps pride in ownership. There is no such thing as a modern-day successful writer who gave up in the face of rejection. (less)

The story follows a diverse sampling of protagonists and antagonists living in a future communal living structure housing tens of thousands of people that has replaced the concept in individual living to combat population and energy crises. Following a catastrophic accident killing more than a hundred residents, strange things begin happening to the players in the story, manifesting in very diverse ways. One window starts being haunted by her husband who died in the accident. One begins to have things appear and disappear randomly throughout his apartment. A nurse begins to see her shadow move about independently of any source. People are attacked by animals that previously didn't exist, energy-reclamation systems throughout the complex become increasingly unpredictable, and many residents go missing. Suspecting they are either being haunted or going mad, those effected increasingly cross paths to discover that the cause of their problems is even more elusive and terrifying than they could have dreamed. Way-Better-Than-Me Recommendation of the Month

Ready Player One
Remember that time when you were a kid and your parents told you to take out the trash?  Or do the dishes?  Or go downstairs and dust off the amateur CB radio console in the nuclear bunker?  You know, chores.  (How am I supposed to know what you had to do to earn an allowance?)    Protective Workwear stock photoRead more of this blog post »
