Santa Fe Chicken Tortilla Soup – Chunky Style
Many of you who saw my Facebook post about making chicken tortilla soup while looking out the window at the beautiful sunset pictured above have asked for the recipe. Since I’m in Santa Fe and experiencing the great chilies and flavors of the Southwest, I went a little overboard on my soup. What follows is an easier version of the soup with ingredients you can find in any grocery store. Put this on to simmer, pick up a good book, and by the time you finish reading - Mmmm!
Happy Reading,

Retreating to Write!
Hi Y’all!
With an eye toward leaving the Texas heat behind, Bill and I are taking a brief leave from beautiful Austin to spend some time on the road writing, reading, and catching up with friends across the country. First stop, Santa Fe, where we’ll be focusing heavily on writing and gaining inspiration from the beautiful scenery and culture of New Mexico. You could call it a writing retreat of sorts!
If you’re a writer or a reader with little time in your day, I highly recommend taking some...

A Weekend in Boston
Hello Fellow Readers,
Welcome to May! I have lots of pictures to share with you today from my time in Boston this weekend. For those of you who missed my social media updates lately, I was presenting at Grubstreet’s National Conference for Writers called Muse and the Marketplace. It was their 15th year full of experts on marketing, bookselling, publicity, promotion, etc., My presentation was on how I launched Dollar Signs.
There was fun too – the pic below is at the after hours drag show w...

April Round-Ups
It’s Wednesday already? It seems just yesterday was February and we were getting ready to launch Dollar Signs. I’d love to have the super power to stop time, or at least stall it long enough to take a breath and drink a glass of wine! I guess I’ll just have to keep up and embrace the craziness.
This weekend I’ll be hanging out in the land of The Freedom Trail, Harvard, and the original Cheers Bar. That’s right - Boston. I’ll be presenting at Grub Street’s Muse & The Marketplace, Author in The...

Spring Musings
The months are flying by. I’m coming to you this week from my home in Austin, but am still finding myself on the road about once a week! Last Wednesday, I spent time in Bryan/College Station chatting with the Brazos Writers about legal issues specifically related to writing and publishing books.
One of the things we talked about is copyright for authors. A copyright automatically exists the minute a book is created, but it is a good idea to register a copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office....

It’s Not All Business
Hello Readers:
The Texas spring rains are watering the bluebonnets. It’s been a gloomy couple of days, but before we know it we’ll be “sweatin’ like a sinner in church” as Betty would say.
Today I’m taking a little trip just east of Austin to Bryan/College Station and will be spending some time with the Brazos Writers Group. They’ve been hosting a fantastic monthly meet-up since 1987.
Using my time as a lawyer for 20+ years coupled with my research on writing, I’ve put together a discussion c...

Texas Bluebonnets and Faraway Readers
Hey y’all!
Springtime is officially here in Austin and the Texas bluebonnets are prolific this year. If you’ve never visited the Hill Country before, this is definitely the time to enjoy it! One of my favorite day trips this time of year (and Merit’s) is to drive out to Becker Vineyards near Fredericksburg and enjoy a glass of wine while looking out over the hundreds of wild blooming bluebonnets.
I’ve been at home for the last couple of weeks working on my second book and it’s been so excitin...
