I want my settings to be real and my characters believable. From my days as a young boy I have been fascinated with the small town in northern California in which I lived, called Port Costa. Many years before I moved there it had an exciting history as a wheat shipping port and a railroad terminal town that caught my imagination and which I intend to feature in my next novels. Port Costa has sister towns called Crockett and Rodeo. These towns all feed into the same high school, John Swett High School. To me, John Swett contains a lot of good and some bad memories and is the setting for my current novel, Bridgetown High, and for the sequel that I'm currently writing, I'm calling The Bridge Beckons. In both novels, the Carquinez Bridge plays a prominent roll for tragedies that occur.(less)
