Find a critique partner and hone your craft. The first novel you write (and maybe even the second and the third) may not get published. But learning how to write a query letter that garners positive responses, and the bravery of submitting to literary agents are both accomplishments to be proud of, even if you don't get signed. Write for the love of writing, because if you focus too much on the end goal of publication, writing can lose its joy. If you continue to write, submit, improve your skills and to believe in yourself, eventually you will write a book that readers connect with!(less)

“Hanna reached for Margaret's hand, knowing nothing she could say would bring comfort. Margaret would never see her grandmother again. Nor would Hanna see her Oma, who had wept when Hanna boarded the ship for America, waving goodbye for the last time. Only the elderly and frail were left behind. And letters from home were not the same as a warm laugh or a cup of tea shared on a cold day.”

“Margaret looked at the ring on her finger. "Gran gave me this before we boarded the ship. It's the most special thing in the world to me. I'll never take it off, Hanna. No matter how hungry I am.”

Thank you so much! That really means a lot to me. I know how it feels to miss characters (I have missed several from books that I've read, and had to remind myself they weren't real people). If you ever visit San Francisco you can walk the streets that Hanna and Margaret walked, and think about them. :) I very much appreciate your kind review. Have a great day!

Pamela Jo Just finished "The Dressmaker's Dowry" and want to let you know that I think it is the best debut novel I have read! You really tied the two eras together very well and the story is totally engrossing! I was anxious to find out what would happen next, but now that I've finished the book, I miss the characters! I was fortunate to receive an Advance Reader Copy from your publisher in exchange for my review. I've posted the review here and will also post it on Barnes & Noble and Amazon as soon as they accept reviews for your novel. Thanks so much for a great read and congratulations on a well written debut!
