Talena Winters is addicted to tea, chocolate, books, yarn, and silver linings. She writes page-turning fiction for teens and adults in multiple genres, coaches other writers, has written several award-winning songs, designs knitting patterns under her label My Secret Wish, and is lead writer for Move Up magazine. She currently resides on an acreage in the Peace Country of northern Alberta, Canada, with her husband, three surviving boys, two dogs, and an assortment of farm cats. Talena dragged herself from her desk, boiled the water in the kettle, and went to grab her mug and a tea bag from the cupboard.

Where the sweet scent of orange pekoe should have wafted from perfectly-packaged silk bags, all that greeted her was an empty box.

If I'm stuck on a story, I look at my original log line and notes and remember what my purpose was. Usually, I've gone off on a tangent and "broken" my story, and all I need to do is remember where I wanted to go so I can get rid of what doesn't belong and fix it.(less)

“For the first time in years, she felt a yearning for something different, something real. Something more than the life she had.”
Talena Winters, Finding Heaven

“Desire had never done anything good in her life, so she had divorced it years ago.”
Talena Winters, Finding Heaven

“I found the hum of his computer rather soothing, but it was the complete lack of unicorn carcasses that really pulled the room together.”
Diana Peterfreund, Rampant

“Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”
Brene Brown

“Real dishes break. That's how you know they're real.”
Marty Rubin

“We are at our most powerful the moment we no longer need to be powerful.”
Eric Micha'el Leventhal

“Amazing relationships aren't about making one perfect choice in your choice of partner. They're about the infinite amount of choices you make in each conflict, each conversation, and each moment to open yourself and to stay open, even when it's hard.”
