Author of science fiction and fantasy. I love exploring new perspectives through writing and reading; there is something awe-inspiring about seeing the odd quirks and corners of humanity and finding something of yourself there.

I live amidst the hills and forests of northern Wisconsin, drawing, painting and learning new things about the craft of writing while being kept in touch with reality by the best support network of friends and family any author could ask for. (no offense, other support groups, but I'm afraid you've met your match.)

'Ashes' is my first publication, and it will hopefully be followed by many more.

However, I want to have a solid idea of what that story would look like before I jump blindly into another project.
So, there's a very good chance we haven't seen the last of 'Ashes' yet, but until I've got a better idea of how to return, I can't make any promises :) (less)

I'm in the opening stages of writing at least 40 different novels, ranging from historical fiction to spy thrillers, but the one I'm working on at the moment is a YA science fiction story involving time travel, working title Nightshade. I'm hoping to publish it within the next couple of years :)(less)

Strength of the Cedars

The sun was strong–blindingly so. It baked and stank in the rich mud on the shores of the Lake; it glittered through the reeds and lilies, and smothered itself in the dense needles of the pines.

In spite of the morning’s golden glow, the sky was dark. Above the green-tinted cliffs at the far edge of the lake, clouds the shade of slate slowly edged closer, changing shape as they came.

I had vague memories of watching (and enjoying) the movie they made based on this premise. I still enjoy the premise quite a bit, but couldn't get past the way the narrator really, really sounded like Zapp Brannigan. ...more

“he had never been meant to be a spy; he was a soldier. a soldier kept his sanity by distancing himself from his enemies, making them something far away and almost inhuman; merely an idea that bled when you stabbed it.”
Grace Crandall, Ashes

“Eric looked up at her--smiled--nodded--returned his gaze to the vast ruin of the warehouse, and Gale was reminded that no, their work was not done. In the line they both had chosen, it never would be done. It was a bit like washing dishes, really; it could only ever be done for now, with the assurance that it would have to be done again later.”
