A Book Cover Paints a Thousand Words...
One of the benefits of self-publishing is doing everything
yourself. And while I admit this might not be a great selling point for some people,
it's one feature of the whole process that I really enjoy. And yes, maybe it is because I'm a bit of a control freak,
but it's also about being involved in every aspect of creating my books, from
the writing, editing and formatting through to the cover
yourself. And while I admit this might not be a great selling point for some people,

Wordcount, Shmurdcount...
How many words a day should I write? Is 3, 4, or 5 thousand
a day good, or should I just do what feels right?
Apparently, Enid Blyton used to churn out 10,000 words per
day when she was writing her children's novels. Or put another way - she could
knock out a book in 5 days. Mind you, old 'Nid has certainly taken a bit of
flack over the years for the quality of her stories, but it may be
a day good, or should I just do what feels right?

One of the great things about eBooks is that they can be updated at any time, so if I find some anomalies in the story I can fix them - just like that! Which is handy, since I realized that at the end of 'The Architect's Apprentice' it would have been better to have the story move straight on, rather than leave my hero sitting around for a few days before tying up the loose ends (the ones that

Eeeh - Books Are Us...
The eBook business has been keeping me busy for the last
couple of weeks. I now have 7 books on Smashwords, being distributed to Apple,
Barnes and Noble and Kobo (among others). Since my marketing plan necessitates
that most of them are listed as FREE, I've set myself the task of completing
the sequels to 'The Architect's Apprentice' and 'The Hounds of Hellerby Hall'

His Dead Mother
Those nice people at SN Review have published my story 'His Dead Mother', a tale I wrote a while ago that seemed at the time like maybe it wasn't a story at all, but there you go.

Devil's Porridge
Way back in 2009, I began writing my first novel for children (that is, the first novel I actually finished). I wrote 10,000 words over the first month then hardly touched it for several years, mainly since I didn't really know where it was going. But then in 2013 I found myself with a bit of free time, so decided to see if I could finish it. Three months later it was done, and since then I've
