Y K Willemse grew up dreaming of the day when she would become an author. But she didn't just dream. At age ten, she began writing seriously. She was published for the first time at age sixteen and saw her first novel release when she was twenty-two years old. When she's not writing, Yvette is walking her Yorkshire Terrier, drinking large amounts of coffee, singing loudly, and teaching music at various schools and studios. She owns a real Norman sword, a very small but sharp axe, and a large collection of books. Together with her husband Michael, she resides in Chinchilla, Queensland.

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

This book had a great premise. The basic ideas behind it were both hooking and striking. However, in my honest opinion, present tense writing can be quite hackneyed and awkward. The ending wasn't particularly satisfying either. If you call a book Red ...more

This was a fun book with plenty of humour, especially in the chapter headings. What a creative idea to have titles like "Seriously, the Dude Cannot Drive!" I found the climax a bit of a let down in the sense it was not one hundred percent sure what e ...more

A great read, especially if you can visualise Colonel Brandon as Alan Rickman. No kidding though - this was very engaging.

This book was very dense linguistically, but a rich read overall. All characters were explored in complex detail, and even Bloody Mary was portrayed as a "mixed bag". The reader's sympathies are all with Lady Jane Grey by the end though. It seems pai ...more
Rafen by Y.K. Willemse
"I found Rafen hard to follow, I couldn't keep track of the characters or picture the setting. Perhaps I would enjoy it had I read further, and been able to settle into the story more.

Unfortunately it was due back at the library so it's gonna be a DNF" Read more of this review »

Enjoyable, although not as captivating as Dickens' other work. The ghost stories were particularly chilling.

Amazing reading, although not for the faint-hearted. The Memorium was beautiful and highly recommended for anyone working through grief after the death of a loved one.

“This is the beginning of a new time,” Torius said, “a great moment for us. One of us has learnt the Tongue and freed a princess. I have saved him and killed the guards. No longer will we be slaves. No longer will the guards tell us what to do. No longer will we listen. We will fight till we get what we want!”
A roar exploded from the children around him.
“This is a revolution,” Torius went on. “You all remember the pain that you have felt when the guards have touched you. You all know the shame we carry within us at being treated like this. No more! We will stand!”

Kira Hawke Thanks so much for the friend request - I recognize you from Twitter and it's nice running into you again :D

Russell Proctor Yvette is a great upcoming young New Zealand writer with a refreshingly different fantasy series, 'The Fledgling Account', out soon.

I've read the first book and thoroughly recommend it.
