I tend to utilize one of two strategies:

A) I try to "will" myself out of it through routine. I set a time to write something - anything - everyday. Even if it sucks. Eventually, if I stay consistent, it will begin to suck a little less day by day, until my writing muse shows up and sprinkles it with fairy dust and sparkles.

B) Most often, I utilize the "art of misdirection". I give myself the permission to relax and think about something else. As I begin to shift my thoughts away from writing to...running...or cleaning (for example), I find that my brain begins to make connections that it had difficulty doing when I was trying to force myself to write. "kept me guessing

This was an enjoyable read that kept me changing teams and trying to predict outcomes. Great job in making the loss of a loved one so tangible that the loss became an actual character. This really was nicely done. I look forward to..." Read more of this review »
