Meet an Author Monday ~ Victoria Alexander

Welcome to Meet an Author Monday!

If you love historical romance novels, you may already know my super funny friend, Victoria Alexander. I've read her books for years and was over the moon when I got to meet her in person waaaaaay back in the early 2000s. Her books are full of all the historical detail you love AND a quick wit that will leave you LOL!

About Victoria Alexander:
New York Times bestselling author Victoria Alexander was an award winning television reporter until she discovered fiction was much more fun than real life. She turned to writing full time and is still shocked it worked out.
Since the publication of her first book in 1995, she has written thirty-one full length novels and six novellas. The Perfect Wife—originally published in 1996 and reissued in March 2008—hit #1 on the New York Times list. Sixteen of her books are bestsellers hitting the New York Times, USA Today and/or Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. With books translated into more than a dozen different languages she has readers around the world and has twice been nominated for Romance’s Writers of America prestigious RITA award. In 2009 she was given a Career Achievement Award from RT Bookclub and was named Historical Storyteller of the year in 2003. In 2008 she was the keynote speaker for the Romance Writers of American annual conference in San Francisco. Victoria credits much of her writing success to her experiences as a reporter.
Her years as a broadcast journalist were spent in two radically different areas of the country: Nebraska and West Virginia. In West Virginia, she covered both natural and manmade disasters. She was on the scene when a power plant construction accident in a small town left 52 men dead. She once spent the night on a mountain waiting to learn of the fate of coal miners trapped in a mine collapse. Victoria was producing a newscast when her husband (who worked at the same television station) and several other journalists were held hostage by a disturbed Vietnam veteran. In Nebraska, she reported on the farm crisis and watched people lose land that had been in their families for generations. She covered the story that was the basis of the movie BOYS DON’T CRY and once acted as the link between police and a gunman who had barricaded himself in his home. Her investigative work exposed the trucking of New York City garbage to a small town dump in rural Nebraska.
During her journalism career, Victoria covered every president from Ford to Clinton. She knows firsthand what it feels like to be surrounded by rising floodwaters and inside a burning building. She’s interviewed movie stars including Kevin Costner, ridden an elephant and flown in a governor’s helicopter. She’s covered a national political convention and Pope John Paul II’s historic visit to Denver as well as small town festivals celebrating everything from walnuts to Glen Miller. Her work was honored by numerous organizations including the Associated Press who called a feature about a firefighter’s school “story telling genius”. It was the encouragement she needed to turn from news to fiction. She’s never looked back.
Victoria is a former president of the Omaha Press Club and in 2009 was named an OPC Face on the Barroom Floor. A caricature portrait of her joined previous faces including presidents, sports figures and politicians in a tradition that began in 1971.
Victoria Alexander with her dogsVictoria claims her love of romance and journalism is to due to the influence of her favorite comic book character: Lois Lane, a terrific reporter and a great heroine who pursued Superman with an unwavering determination. And why not? He was extremely well drawn.
Victoria grew up traveling the world as an Air Force brat. Today, she lives in Omaha, Nebraska with her husband and her dogs. Victoria had two bearded collies, Sam and Louie (named from characters in one of her books). Sam (on the left), the best dog in the world for 13 ½ years, passed away in September 2010. Louie took on the position of loyal companion and did a fine job even though he doesn’t understand that kitchen counter surfing is not allowed!

Now he’s been joined by Reggie, prince of the lilacs.
They all live happily ever after in a house under constant renovation and the accompanying parade of men in tool belts. And never ending chaos. Victoria laughs a great deal—she has to.

She loves music, dancing, and wishes summer lasted all year long. She lives in Colorado (where summer is most definitely NOT all year long) with her husband and three children.

Meet an Author Monday ~ Robin Covington

Welcome to Meet an Author Monday!
I am so excited to introduce you to Robin Covington, writer and all around wonder person extraordinaire.
"I grew up in the small southern town of Danville, Virginia. The granddaughter of a Covington-007preacher on my Daddy’s side and an epic storyteller and musician on my Mama’s side. I was an unapologetic tomboy who always had my nose buried in a book. As you can imagine, spinning tales in my head, on the page, and out loud was in my blood. I scribbled scenes down on pieces of paper and notebooks and created stories in my head on long drives – in between four-part harmony with my family on the way to a singing gig for our family band.
The stories never left me but as I got older, I put aside the urge to put them down on paper as I made my way through college, law school, marriage and motherhood. I promised myself that I would write that book. . .someday. And then two weeks before I turned 40, a dear friend lost her 5 year battle with breast cancer and I realized that I was never guaranteed all those days in the distant future when I would write that book in my heart. As my friend said, “Someday is not a day of the week.”
So, I started writing and I kept writing and I kept writing until one day I was offered a publishing contract and I’ve never looked back.
I have books published with Entangled Publishing (PLAYING THE PART, SWEET SOUTHERN BETRAYAL and few more) and I also have ventured into independent publishing with DARING THE PLAYER and TEMPTATION.
This year I am so excited to expand the TEMPTATION universe into the Nashville Nights trilogy. Each book will be a standalone, with no cliffhangers but I guarantee smart heroines, sexy heroes, so much steam between the sheets (and in the backseat of the car, in the hallway, on the desk. . .) that you might want to run the A/C while you indulge your reading habit!
I love Haribo gummy bears and caramel anything. I adore Pembroke Welsh Corgis and I wear red everyday. I am a comic book geek who was thrilled when Superman and Wonder Woman finally got together. My favorite things are my kid’s laughter and my husband’s blue eyes. I firmly, unequivocally, and without any doubt believe that everyone deserves love and I make sure that they get it in my books.
Thanks so much for reading and letting me live this dream. I love to hear from readers, so drop me a line at robin@robincovingtonromance.com. I always write back . . ."

Meet an Author Monday ~ Rebecca Yarros

Welcome to Meet an Author Monday!!
I'm so excited to introduce you all to author Rebecca Yarros.
This woman is incredible behind the computer weaving together stories you won't want to put down. She is also one of those generous people, always willing to help...even virtual strangers. heart emoticon
Two Books. One Blog. Six Kids. And just enough quirk to stay sane!
Rebecca Yarros is a hopeless romantic and lover of all things chocolate, coffee, and Paleo. In addition to being a mom, military wife, and blogger, she can never choose between Young Adult and New Adult fiction, so she writes both. She's a graduate of Troy University, where she studied European history and English, but still holds out hope for an acceptance letter to Hogwarts. Her blog, The Only Girl Among Boys, has been voted the Top Military Mom Blog the last two years, and celebrates the complex issues surrounding the military life she adores.
When she's not writing, she's tying on hockey skates for her kids, or sneaking in some guitar time. She is madly in love with her army-aviator husband of eleven years, and they're currently stationed in Upstate NY with their gaggle of rambunctious kiddos and snoring English Bulldog, but she would always rather be home in Colorado.
You can learn more about Rebecca at her website

And you can find her books here!

Interview with MK Meredith by AmyBeth Inverness

Click on the picture to read a super fun interview I had with AmyBeth Inverness. Questions from why I decided against being a nun, to cancer, to who shot first? Han or Greedo? Let me just say my marriage hung on the balance of that last question. LOL! Hope you enjoy it!

Knowing My Body Gave Me A Happy Ever After...

Well my loves, I had my second surgery last Thursday. There is something I need to make clear, but haven't had the words--which is funny because I never shut up.
I. Found. My. Cancer.
Not a mammogram, or the ultra sound, not a doctor, but me.
I have an advantage having lost my mom, as CRAZY as that sounds. But because of her, I became VERY familiar with my body. I KNOW (knew, LOL) my breasts.
I saw an indentation over the Christmas holiday. As soon as the kiddos went back to school, I made an appointment. It took me a morning of phone calls because quite a few offices didn't take Tricare, and on the second to my last call, I broke down because I was scared. I knew something wasn't right, and I needed someone to see me.
When I went in to see the Ob/gyn, she couldn't see or feel what I was talking about. I told her it was easier to feel when I was lying down, so we did that.
She could 'kind of' feel a lump. So 'lets get a mammo, just in case'.
Yes. Lets.
They took over 25 films. Every one came back negative. Really they came back as white, webby films because I had very dense and fibrous breasts. The mammo showed nothing even though the tumor was just below the skin. I could have been sent home with a clean bill of health.
But, I KNEW something was there.
So, 'let's send you for an ultra sound just in case'.
Yes. Lets.
And there it was. An ugly black cloud. The kind a five year old might draw to represent bad weather.
My reason for telling you isn't to be negative about what is available to us for diagnosis, but to tell you to be SMART. KNOW your body. PLEASE. It isn't embarrassing. It isn't weird or naughty or any other silly excuse I've heard. Your body is a beautiful, hard working, vessel of possibilities, and you need to KNOW it so you can help out when something goes wrong.
KNOWING your body along with today's diagnostic tools is what will paint a clearer picture. So please.
Feel yourself up. Look at yourself from every angle. Really become close, intimate friends with YOUR body, and just to be on the safe side, let someone else, too. Not only is it fun, but second opinions give you peace of mind. heart emoticon
If you have a question, or a feeling, or a hunch, anything...make your doctor's look. Don't be put off. You KNOW your body, remember?

Loves, hugs, and peanut butter.
