Comment on The Subtle Art Of Reaching Your Potential by MrEd Thorpe

Hey Taylor,

Thought this was a killer article with references that I’ve already seen and thought about. Stand out for me: ‘always do more of what you find easy, that others find hard.’ Thanks, Edward

I was recommended to read your article because I was beating myself up for having an absolute zero in one particular marketing activity. However I know several successful marketers who never do this activity, so i shall in future be spending my time on the things I am good at, leaving my “big fat zero” well alone.

60 books/year? Sounds about right. Used to be close to 500 in high-school :( If only there was as much free time…

Malcolm Gladwell pulled the 10,000 hour rule out of his ass. Anders Ericsson in his book wrote that it takes 10,000 hours of DELIBERATE PRACTICE (not just 10k hours doing something) to become an elite world class pianist/violinist. That’s it. No magic 10k rule was discovered in his research. We like to create narratives where they don’t exist.

While The Beatles may have practiced playing music 10k hours, most of it was not deliberate practice. Anders talked about this and critisized Gladwell...

Comment on Listen to What’s Being Whispered, not What’s Being Said by Beth Powell

Perfectly written! Sometimes what we’ve heard once or somewhere we’ve been once no longer holds the same meaning or magic. I have places and books that don’t hold the same for me today as they did when I first visited and read.

I am living and working in Okinawa, but I would have never taken this position if my son hadn’t lived in China for two years or if I hadn’t visited him there.

I pull different things from what I read and sometimes with what I’m reading at the same time. I find common...

Comment on The Only Three Ways To Be More Productive by Matthew Newton

Thanks for this post. Since getting back from my honeymoon I have implemented it in a VERY loose fashion but it’s been helpful.

I have a column of Maker stuff and a column of Admin stuff in Trello. If I’m out of things to do in the morning, I go to the Maker column… and etc.

Hey Bruce,

I would google for what Tim Ferriss and Ryan Holiday have done with traditional publishers. That was who I moddled off of. The sort version is that you use bonuses to create urgency instead of price increases.

Yeah….we call it dipping into the kitty, so most important thing is 1) ensuring when the sun does shine, your bailing lots of hay 2) the hay consumption never exceeds the production and lastly 3) in special circumstances where more is required, have easy access to others fields when needed;)
