Kristy Acevedo is a YA author, high school English teacher, and huge Star Trek, Doctor Who, and Harry Potter fan. When she was a child, her “big sister” from the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program fostered her love of books by bringing her to the public library every Wednesday.

A member of SCBWI, her debut novel, CONSIDER (Jolly Fish Press), won the PEN New England Susan P. Bloom Children’s Book Discovery Award and was a finalist for the Philip K. Dick award. She has her master's degree in English and Secondary Education from Bridgewater State University. She lives in Massachusetts with her husband, two daughters, and two cats (Milo and Khaleesi). She believes coffee and dark chocolate were put on this planet for the good of humankind.

I have the opening draft of a horror inspired by Macbeth that I'd love to finish at some point. I would also love to work on a script for a television series.

If I found the "right" urban legend that caught my creative energy, I wouldn't be against it.

Full Chapter 1 Free Preview of CONSIDER 2 15 Nov 01, 2015 07:19PM
“The Journey

One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice --
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
"Mend my life!"
each voice cried.
But you didn't stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do --
determined to save
the only life you could save.”
