What would that world be like? And what would happen to our memory processes in this world where we were forever young, always looking to the future? Writing this book was a cathartic experience! Silver for Song of All Songs!

It was such a delightful surprise this week to receive the email informing me that my latest book—Song of All Songs—had won an award! There are some exciting perquisites that Self-Publishing Review offers with this award—including reviews and an interview—and I’ll be posting about those soon enough. For now, I’m just reveling in a sense … Continue reading Silver for Song of All Songs! Read more of this blog post »

The Glory Days of Aimée Bonnard by Maria Elena Sandovici
I don’t fancy myself a connoisseur of art, but these paintings are most striking. Landscapes open in front of my eyes, marshes and swamps and beaches inundated by the most beautiful light, egrets rising majestic from among lush Gulf Coast greenery, their white feathers a striking contrast to the darkness of bayous and marshes, waves crashing to shore, sea foam shining in the sunlight. I can feel the hot sand, feel the cool respite of each bluish shadow, the motion of each wave, the awe of encountering each bird and basking under each open sky.

“The breezes at dawn have secrets to tell you
Don't go back to sleep!
You must ask for what you really want.
Don't go back to sleep!
People are going back and forth
across the doorsill where the two worlds touch,
The door is round and open
Don't go back to sleep!”
