Susan Breen I force myself to put something on the page. It might be awful. It probably is awful, but it's less awful than a blank page.

One of the things I love about mysteries is that they are usually about people trying to make sense of their lives. What are the rules and what happens when the rules are broken? I was drawn to writing about a woman struggling to understand her own life who becomes a detective when one of her Sunday School students, now a grown man, is accused of murder. She knows he didn't do it, but in order to figure out who did it, she has to examine her little village more closely. She also has to figure out what sort of person she's become. It took me about a year to write. (less)

“She had been trying to be honest with him, thinking her honesty would be winsome and that he would come to rescue her family, forgetting what she later learned as a writer: that to be honest is to open yourself up to people thinking you're crazy.”

“Her descriptions will be incandescent, perfect little nuggets of phraseology, and there will probably be lots of sex in her writing - the clinical type of sex with labias and clitorises and tongues going everywhere.”
Susan Breen, The Fiction Class

“It was almost 3:00. Two hours until dinner and six hours until bed. Not that she was regimented. “It’s too much, isn’t it? I knew I shouldn’t ask.” “Hold on,” Maggie said. “It’s just I was surprised.” “You’ll do it, then,” Helen Blake gushed. “Would you really? That would be such a help. I would owe you for the rest of my life.”

Susan, I've added your book The Fiction Class to my to-read list.

Jeannie Faulkner Barber Hi Susan and thanks for adding me to your Goodreads list. If you have time, I'd love for you to visit my web site, www.jeanniebarber.com. I'm a novice writer so feel free to make any kind of suggestions, ideas or thoughts to correct it. I’m co-authoring a novel with Patty Wiseman, another friend on Goodreads. We’ve known each other for over 30 years. While you're there, please sign the guestbook, too! There’s also a link to our book you can click on…clairkelley@synthasite.com. This site is brand new and in the editing stage as is our story. Please visit it as well. We’re both very green, but we’ve met so many people on this site willing to reach out and offer advice or a guiding hand, we feel very blessed.
Thanks,
Jeannie
