Sarah - that's a good question, and one I confronted twice this year since two marathons I ran in 2016 were rainy. A couple ideas:

1. Don't obsess about it. You know the weather will be bad. You can't change it. It's going to suck no matter what you do. I've found that accepting that before the race helps me to be calm going into the bad weather.

2. Tell yourself that the worst part is going from dry to wet. After that - it really can't get much worse.

3. Think about how you'll feel at miles 5, 10, 15 and 20. By then, you'll warm up. It's waiting to start (especially since this race is so early) that's terrible.

4. Draw back to times that you've run in these conditions before. I've run the Ocean Drive 10 miler nine years in a row and have run it in rain, 35mph headwinds, even snow. When I hit wind and rain in this year's New Jersey Marathon, I told myself I'd run in worse, and then mentally pushed forward (and PRed!)

Good luck on Sunday! I was going to watch but got a last minute assignment in Vermont - but I'll be thinking of you guys. (less)

“Fuck you, Philadelphia. You all do your little 10-mile race while I go out and put on my big-boy pants and run a fucking marathon along New Jersey’s beautiful but broken beaches.”

Daniel Hey Jen , good luck with those reviews and I'll send you a link to my latest book.

Your blogs look good on Windows XP but NOT on Microsoft's new Vista. Better check that out, Jen .
