M. Lorrox's Blog

In 2017, I published the first 5 books in the Infinite Vampire series. I did it, but it was a brutal amount of work and it nearly killed me! After the last book was published, I took a short break and finally found a house we wanted. We bought it in Nov. ’17. A year has passed, and I’ve done very little writing. I’ve done a lot of legal work on the Infinite Vampire brand, ran promotions, fixed all known typos and tweaked the book covers, and I worked on setting up the audiobooks, but I didn’t publish anything new.…

A while ago, I started the process of registering Trademarks for the Infinite Vampire series. I’ve registered word-mark trademarks in the past, but for this book series, I registered 3 trademarks: Infinite Vampire (word-mark) (The Infinite Vampire Logo) (image-mark) M. Lorrox (word-mark) The first two are like any other series trademark, Jurassic Park, for example. But the third trademark requires some explanation. You see,if you search “Stephen King” on Amazon.com, you find many books by the famous author, but you’ll also find many other books by other authors writing under the name “Stephen King.” If you click on one of…

I’ve tried Amazon Advertising a lot, and I just tried it again. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong! At first I let Amazon place the ads, and that didn’t result in any sales. I tried where I placed the ads, but that didn’t work either (although I did get 1 sale). I’m not sure if the problem is the series itself (irreverent, silly, badass, action, dark comedy, paranormal crossover), an issue with my covers not being inviting, or that I’m an unknown author. Eh, oh well. So far the best advertising I’ve ever done was on Facebook, but with…

I purchased a Freebooksy.com series promotion for the Infinite Vampire series on Sep. 14, 2018, and I made the first book, BLOOD 4LIFE free for that day. I had 2,179 downloads! Now, People that download a ton of books for free, rarely read them all, and they rarely read them soon after downloading. Finally, few readers actually review books. That said, I may not get much from this promotion other than an increase in exposure and reach, but that’s ok. I still had hopes: I hoped readers would buy the other books in the series after seeing the quality and…

After a year of very disappointing sales, unsuccessful marking attempts, and a stalling out of reviews, I caved. I joined Kindle Unlimited, and it’s making me (small amounts of) money. I didn’t want to do Kindle Unlimited. I even blogged about it. I didn’t want to limit my books to only sell on Amazon.com, which is the key requirement of Kindle Unlimited. I published my books on every platform, but none of them except Amazon saw any traction. So, this summer I pulled the plug and only have my books for sale on Amazon.com, which allows me to enroll them in Kindle…

Recently, I tweaked the Infinite Vampire series books’ covers and fixed all known typos in them. I ordered sample books, and they look phenomenal, so I’m ordering up another batch to make box sets! Each set will include all 5 books (SOPHIA’S JOURNAL, BLOOD 4LIFE, QUEEN’S GAMBIT, MAELSTROM, ANTIVENOM), a custom bookmark featuring the trademarked Infinite Vampire logo, a postcard, and a sticker! Oh, and I’ll autograph each book in the box set! Because these are printed on demand, the cost per book is high to begin with. I can get a slight discount if I order 10 of each…

Want to know a secret? I’ve been an audiobook narrator for awhile, reading everything from history to romance. I’m not great, but I’m not that bad either. Anyway, I’m finally ready to begin recording my own personal audiobooks! First I’m going to record, edit, master, publish SOPHIA’S JOURNAL. Lily has agreed to read for it, and I can’t wait to get it in production! After it’s released, I’m going to roll straight into recording the other books in the Infinite Vampire series (at least the first one or two). It takes me a really long time to make audiobooks, but…

If you want to publish print on demand books, there are few options. The most widely used is Createspace, a company which is now owned by Amazon.com. Createspace is great; I’ve been using it for years and years without complaint. Recently though, things have changed. For a while, it seemed like a crapshoot whether a cover would be accepted or if it would be kicked back for edits. The process isn’t instantaneous, it requires about a day’s wait between when you upload the cover and when you find out if it “meets the specifications.” The trouble was that I could…
