My first read from Pelecanos. Enjoyed the trip back in time and the author's use of dialogue and specificity with setting. Felt like I was transported to D.C. in the early 70's. Book is a hero's journey plot. Loved the ending. Will read more from Pel ...more

Best psychological thriller I've read since "Sharp Objects" by Gillian Flynn. Deeply plotted book with flawed yet empathetic characters. Tragic love story underscores narrative. Hope author writes more in this genre.

Phenomenal book. Everything you want in a mystery--setting, red herrings, compelling internal and external struggles for characters. Will read other two books in series (and fourth when it comes out).
