Justin spent 15 years as a professional writer and editor before his debut novel, Carpet Diem, was published in 2015. It became a best-seller and won a 2018 Audie award. Since 2018 he has been writing full time, alongside working on scripts with his wife, Juliet, who he met through a BBC scriptwriting contest.

They live just outside his hometown of Edinburgh with their Brady Bunch family of five kids.

He misses Firefly. No Wash jokes. Still too soon.

I'm currently working on the sequel to Carpet Diem, which I've been promising for a while, and then I'll be on to books 2 and 3 of Eidyn. I hope you can wait! In the meantime, when you finish The Lost War, there's a Facebook group where you can come and hang out, read about the real history that inspired parts of the book and ask questions: https://www.facebook.com/groups/90790...(less)

Seriously, there is actually research to show that a few glasses of alcohol is good for creativity. It reduces your inhibitions and opens you up to unusual ideas. Hemingway might not actually have said "write drunk; edit sober" but it's not bad advice.

Other than that, just do something else. If you're really stuck, get up and walk away. Do something fairly mindless, like housework or cooking. Let your subconscious work and come back fresh later.(less)

A Little Hatred by Joe Abercrombie
"ARC provided by the publisher—Gollancz—in exchange for an honest review.

Grim, dark, fun, and glorious; A Little Hatred is irrefutably worth the wait.

Let me begin by saying that although this is a new series in the First Law World and you can tech..." Read more of this review »

The Lost War by Justin Lee Anderson
"I love a bit of fantasy every now and then but I wouldn’t regard myself as a genre groupie - there’s just too much mediocre stuff out there.
This, however, is in a completely different league - it’s the kind of fantasy that really has it all!
There..." Read more of this review »

“The doorbell didn’t work. Simon had had it disconnected ten years ago as a birthday present to himself. (He’d enjoyed awarding himself the ‘no-bell’ prize and briefly lamented having nobody with whom to share the joke.)”
Justin Lee Anderson, Carpet Diem

“Simon was amazed at how the Irish could smile in any situation. Come Armageddon, the nation of Ireland would surely be found in the pub, laughing like children and beckoning the horsemen in for a Guinness.”
Justin Lee Anderson, Carpet Diem

“Harriet was educating her in the ways of good single malt, and why bourbon isn’t real whisky.”
