handwritten glimpses - another bit of random for you!
i loved hearing from you guys when i wrote this recent post. i find it fascinating how people live - how they decorate, how they cook, and especially how they organize their lists + schedules. i'm also fascinated to know how writers write (on the computer? typewriter? longhand?) just like i love to know how artists keep track of their inspiration (journals? photo clippings? computer bookmarks?). but back to organizing. some of us keep our schedules and notes on our phones and computers (i...

what i learned this morning when a birdie knocked himself out on my kitchen window
one of the best things about where we live is that the house behind ours has a really great backyard with trees and bird feeders and water gardens. the dividing fence is low but there's enough greenery to still give us both privacy. we love that we can hear their water garden and peek at the birdies feed in the feeders. it's such a morning treat!so today i was in the kitchen making some tea when i looked up and saw one of the birds crash into our closed kitchen window. he fell straight to...

a bit of random....
i just finished a long post with photos and everything. and then it was gone. poof! so frustrating!
so i'm going to try this again but with just a few random photos to show you a bit of what i've been up to!
our neighborhood farmer's market is the bees knees. for $20, i can get enough flowers to fill 6-7 vases to spread around the house. i love standing at the sink playing with the arrangments. love.
bella is loving this spot in the living room where she looks out of the windows onto the street...

on nine years.
taken with the iphone while stuck in a bit of afternoon traffic.we celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary today. we are 35 + 36 years old and today was our last anniversary as just the two of us - we wanted to make it special. and so we did.
we took the whole day off. no work. no unpacking. we slept in. snuggled.we went out for breakfast where i discovered that you really can rest plates and drinks on a basketball belly the size of texas (photo below)we walked in the rose garden.we talked to o...

studio unpacking in progress. yikes!
(really bad iphone photo of a corner of the studio being unpacked)i am working really hard at trying to get my studio unpacked. it's been such a process - lord have mercy. i'm realizing two things. one: i really want my space to be pretty like my old studio. two: but i really want everything (ephemera, paints, etc) to be out and visible when i'm painting rather than stored away, like how i was creating in the dining room up in seattle. so, i'm trying to bridge the two ideas and get everything...

on pregnancy panic and reclaiming energized hope
i'm 35 weeks today. my oh my. people tell me that it's all in the belly, but it feels like it's everywhere. i am still wearing my regular dresses and target maternity jeans underneath. thank god for jersey dresses from boden. and thank god for my being able to stay incredibly, weirdly active with just the occasional energy slump here and there. ps - notice the iphone cover! i've got lots of designs in the iphone/ipad/laptop department coming soon to the online shop which will re-open in the n...

on making a home, and the friction of time and settling in
the hilarious tracey clark put eyeballs on the belly a couple of weeks ago and took photos of it. i have no idea, but this is like the funniest thing i've done in a long time and every time i look at this photo it gifts me with laughter.at any given moment my head is spinning with this: oh my, only 5 more weeks until baby arrives. i have A LOT to do: finish unpacking (office, studio, basement family room, inventory/packaging area), get the shop up and running again, find an assistant asap (fi...
