I tend love long walks outside, in a park or another peaceful setting, to settle my mind.

Another thing that helps me write is empathy. I try to think about what other people's lives are like, what their secret dreams and hopes and ambitions are, what they're like behind closed doors. I think everyone has a story, and I try to think about what it's like to walk in another person's shoes. (less)

I also think that being a writer has helped me learn to observe other people and my surroundings more thoughtfully. It gives me the sense that everyone, every single person, has a story to tell. I think understanding that helps me see people more compassionately and with more empathy. (less)

Interview with Science Fiction and Horror Writer John Coons

My next interview is with Science Fiction and Horror Writer John Coons!

Tell us about yourself! What would you like readers to know about you?

John Coons: Writing is in my DNA. I work as a sports reporter when I am not writing novels. I currently write for the Associated Press and Athlon Sports and have worked in the media for more than 15 years. I published my first novel, Pandora Reborn, in 2018.

This is a true cozy mystery--enjoyable characters, an interesting plot with lots of twists and turns, and plenty of red herrings. I thought the relationship between Kate and Simon was well done--it was subtle, sweet, and in the end ambiguous. The sup ...more

Frank Herbert
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
Frank Herbert, Dune

Marie Curie
“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.”
Marie Curie

Albert Einstein
“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existence. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery each day.
