A fan of all things fantastical and frightening, Shannon Lawrence writes in her dungeon when her minions allow, often accompanied by her familiar, Cleo. She writes primarily horror and fantasy. Her stories can be found in several anthologies and magazines, including Space and Time Magazine, Dark Moon Digest, and The Literary Hatchet, and her short story collection Blue Sludge Blues & Other Abominations is now available.

When she's not writing, she's hiking through the wilds of Colorado and photographing her magnificent surroundings. Though she often misses the Oregon coast, the majestic and rugged Rockies are a sight she could never part with. Besides, in Colorado there's always a place to hide a body or birth a monster. What more could she

Hi, Traci!

I like psychological horror best. Something that could actually happen. Human monsters versus made up ones. Of course, I like it all, but psychological is my favorite when well done.

As far as fantasy, I tend toward urban fantasy more than high fantasy. I love the meshing of modern day with fantastical elements.(less)

This was whimsical, with some interesting details, but sadly, I found it really dull. The action didn't get started until after page 300. Everything moves straight forward in a direct line, with nothing really thrown in the way of the MC until halfwa ...more

A fun, bubble gum read, as in empty, but enjoyable. The two main characters aren't especially likable, which makes it hard to root for them or care much when things go wrong. This is more of a 3.5, but since that's not an option I rounded up. The cry ...more

A fun and often sweet book. Real, relatable, and high stakes. When Jeff's kinda-stepson disappears off his holiday float, police look at him first. If he doesn't find the little boy, no one will; they're too busy looking in the wrong places. Jeff get ...more

This came highly recommended, so when I started it and wasn't seeing what those folks had seen, I ended up DNR'ing at about the 100 page mark. But I decided to give it another chance. It got marginally better, but still just wasn't for me.
