This may be my favourite collection of short stories.
Holmes has grown and evolved since Moriaty and the Falls. Older, kinder, sharp as ever and a pleasure to spend time with. The last story, The Second Stain, is a corker.

I feel that this, in concert with Granville-Barker’s Preface to Hamlet, and Bradley’s Shakespearean Tragedy, constitute the Big 3 in early 20th Century Hamlet analysis.
