Okay.

BEFORE late 2017-present, I would deal with writer's block by switching it up and putting the laptop away to write the old-fashioned way, pen-to-paper. I don't know, something about that feeling, really shook that block loose for me.

As a child, I always loved blank paper. I loved to fill that sh*t up! So maybe it brings me back to my roots, the feeling I got when I journaled as a teen, or just the fun I had when I got to play with a pen and those long sheets of dot matrix printer paper, the kind with the perforated edges.

But in late 2017, I realized I was in a block. And it was a big one. I physically could not open any of the story files on my laptop. I couldn't even point my cursor at a file without getting sick to my stomach.

It took until early 2018 for me to realize that I was literally thinking about being Bob Dylan. I was so worried about how my second book would be received that I couldn't handle working on it at all. I hadn't written a word in literally months when, one day, I forced myself to open the document and just read through my story a little bit. I found some notes from before I got blocked, and incorporated them into my story where they needed to go, and pushing myself that little bit got my creative wheels turning again. The ideas started flowing.

So, usually, I'd put pen to paper to get over a block. But that was the first ever really huge block I've experienced. If you're in that kind of writer's block, I'd say just put your nose to the grindstone and force yourself to put out results.(less)

Well, I've been writing since I was like six. I used to write "books" on folded pieces of construction paper.

For me, the very best thing about being a writer is that I am literally living my dream. I have known since age six what I wanted to be, and what I was meant to do. Writing, to me, is satisfying. It's fulfilling. To any creative person, the feeling of using their creativity and actually creating something is so great!

I'm me, the real me, when I write.(less)

I don't feel like I'm putting enough time into the edits of my second book. I have a lot going on, and it's hard not to feel guilty about neglecting my work which needs the most attention out of all the projects I have simmering at the moment.

Today, I went grocery shopping for my mother-in-law and her mother (henceforth referred to as Maw Maw, cause she's Maw Maw and she's awesome). I even stop... Read more of this blog post »
