I am a high school English teacher and YA author.

Both my YA books "Fakie" and "Outrage" were chosen for YALSA's 2009 Quick Picks for Reluctant Readers.

"Fakie" was chosen as "Honor book" for Nebraska's Golden Sower Award for 2010-2011 and nominated for New Jersey's Garden State Teen Book Awards and the Colorado Blue Spruce Young Adult Book Award for 2011.

Top Student Novel Picks for 2016

When my district switched our classroom websites to Blackboard, I lost years of student book recommendations.

So as one of the last assignments, I asked my ninth graders to pick their favorite independent novel from this year and write one sentence why they liked it. So you can stock your classroom libraries for next year, the top vote-getters with unedited rationales follow.

A great insight to some historically important people who were LGBTQ+ and historically important people because they were LGBTQ+ and how both groups shaped our society.
A great addition to my classroom nonfiction shelf.

Exactly what I needed after a couple stressful weeks. A great revenge book that also taught me a little about Chinese culture and language.

This is a fun, teen murder mystery that had me fooled. I totally thought I had this one figured out, and then ...Nope.

Highly recommend for fans of One of Us is Lying series, which was very popular with my students this year.

I got this one largely for the title. And loved it.
A good identity drama where the MC finds himself by trying to find out who his deceased cousin really was. I learned a lot about the Philippines along the way.
