A lot of what I'm good at came easy to me. I was naturally proficient at sports and all school subjects. Unfortunately, even those of us who start out good at living have to figure more out along the way. Injuries and heredity made me become less of a force as an athlete. Choosing the wrong major caused my grades to slip a bit in college. And one thing I was never good at in the first place (meeting new people) got that much harder because I was no longer the kid, and people were no longer interested in how school was going.

The cool part is that I had my glory years, but I'm smart enough to realize how little they matter while still being able to write about them with conviction. Actually, writing is the other skill that has always come ea

Each of the feature films I wrote with Casey took 2-3 years, while Philadelphia Store, The Musical took over four years. Since most of my short stories took me about a week to write, a collection of 2-3 short stories might be a month of writing, with a few years of editing. Finally, Alex and my Wild West Allis Stories (The 20 master plots about West Allis, WI) will have taken us more than five years when it's all said and done, which it is not as of late 2015.

All that said, if I could publish a single poem and make money doing so, then I could do that in a day or two. (less)

Walk around, music, mindless searching online. Actually, it's not mindless. I usually look for an article that might help with one of my other stories. I explore and learn something completely unrelated, and then I might even write that story for a while. I write an article. I revise an old poem. I look out the front window of my house and realize my yard will never be the best, but my novel could be, at least better than my non-novel-writing neighbors, and that gets me going again. (less)

Holy Hard Water, Jacksonville

We finally got enough ahead to put on the new roof that didn't really help with insurance rates, and the next improvement probably has to be a water softener, since we have especially hard water. In fact, based on our zip code, we have hard water bordering on mineral water. For 32225, it's 339 ppm of minerals or 20 grains per gallon for figuring out your water softener.
