How to spend a Saturday when you're supposed to be writing...

I'm supposed to be starting writing a new book today.  Or to be more specific I was supposed to start yesterday.  I even have a possible title, and names for my hero and heroine.  I have the whole day more or less free for writing and what have I been doing?  Yep, procrastinating, as usual.

Here's a picture of my first piece of procrastination ......

Looks tasty doesn't it?  But it really hasn't helped the book along at all.  Of course a cup of tea and a piece of cake are very good for the imagination, so I suppose that's a pretty good reason to have made it.









​But then I felt compelled to make something savoury as well.....

And they're going down very well indeed!

So, cooking all done now should be the time to get stuck into writing the book.  So what am I doing now?  Writing a silly blog post about procrastination.  

It's now two o'clock in the afternoon.  I've been up since 8 am and only now am I considering possibly, maybe, starting the book.

Oh well, it's been fun cooking. :-)

Cobwebs in the Dark Locations - Part Seven - Seattle

The seventh location I used in Cobwebs in the Dark is Seattle.  The city puts in an appearance both in the present day story, and in the flashback chapters.  

Gideon is on tour with NightHawk in Seattle on two separate occasions during the flashbacks, and Simon starts off there in the present day story.  

This is one location that I haven't visited, but I did get some very useful information about the airport from my editor, who used to live there!

Cobwebs in the Dark Locations - Part Six - Bristol

The sixth location from Cobwebs in the Dark is Bristol.  I have definitely been to this one, in fact I took my driving test there, on a cold, wet, dark December evening, during the rush hour.  And I passed.  :-)

In a couple of the flashback chapters, Abi has a close encounter in Bristol, when she and her friends are supposed to be going to a gig at the Colston Hall.  It wasn't the best time of her life and we get to see a new side of her in these chapters.

Cobwebs in the Dark Locations - Part Five - Bath

The fifth location from Cobwebs in the Dark is one that's actually in England.  Bath in Somerset.  Bath appears in some of the flashback scenes and is where Abi went to Art College, and where Natasha goes on an outing when she is five.

This picture shows Royal Crescent which is a beautiful example of Georgian architecture.   Both Abi and Natasha get to visit the Museum of Costume when they are in Bath.  

The first time I went there, I was the only person in the whole museum and it was actually quite spooky going round in the dark, something which I think Natasha finds as well!

Cobwebs in the Dark Locations - Part Four - Mount Tarawera

The area around Mount Tarawera on New Zealand's north island is the next location used in Cobwebs in the Dark.  This is connected to Natasha's illicit adventure, and the area proves quite a terrifying place for a while.

This picture shows the Forestry Road that leads up the the mountain itself.

I won't say too much about it so as not to give anything away, but quite a few things are revealed about the past during the part of the book that centres on this area of New Zealand.  

Google maps came into play a lot during the writing of this part, and I have to say it looks lovely and one day I'd love to visit the area.

Cobwebs in the Dark Locations - Part Three - Kaipaki

​The third location used in Cobwebs in the Dark is Kaipaki, near Cambridge on New Zealand's North Island.  

This is where Natasha was going when she took off on her adventure, and the house she went to looked something like the one in this picture.

​I don't think it's giving too much away to say that she had to catch a bus to Cambridge, and then a taxi to Kaipaki from there, which was fairly daunting for a thirteen year old on her own in a strange country.

Of course her trip brought problems of its own, but you'll need to read the book to find out about those!

Cobwebs in the Dark Locations - Part Two - Springfield NZ

The second location used in Cobwebs in the Dark is Springfield, a small town on the South Island of New Zealand.  Abi and Gideon go here after a news story breaks and they need to deal with it.  No spoilers!  In 2007, a statue of a giant pink doughnut was erected to promote the upcoming Simpsons Movie.  It was set alight and destroyed by an arsonist in September 2009, but since the book is taking place in May 2009, it would have still been there.  ​
Springfield is at the foot of the Southern Alps, and the person Abi and Gideon visit is staying in a ranch, just outside the town, that has amazing views of the mountains.
