I'm a New Zealand writer who enjoys creating true-to-life Kiwi characters and communities in my contemporary New Zealand stories, capturing the unique way of life of small-town rural Mainlanders.

I've lived around the South Island (and Stewart Island!) with family originally hailing from the West Coast. Each of my books weaves in the southern places that have a special place in my heart, and the outdoor way of life that is such a special part of New Zealand life.

My "Across the Strait" books are set around a family where all is not as it seems, moving through Central Otago and Stewart Island. My "Maniototo Skies" books are set around the plains of the Maniototo, dealing with the far reaching consequences of a moment of anger, and the nature

Sounds like you're heading to New Zealand - I have put up a set of photos on my Facebook page so you and other readers can see the real-life New Zealand places that feature in the story. Hopefully you won't need to to call the AA (Automobile Association) to fix your car when you're here, but if you do, I hope the mechanic is as good looking as Dan :-) Have a fantastic holiday - let's know what you think of the book.(less)

A Southern Strait (Across the Strait, Book 3)

My forthcoming title "A Southern Strait" will be published in October 2017 - the countdown is on! This is Rebecca and Heath's story - with themes of environmental crime, conservation, infertility, and of course some romance as well! It is book 3 in my Across the Strait series, but can be read as a standalone - there's a happy ending with no cliffhangers (and an update on Jesse and Lisa!) Like the Read more of this blog post »

“I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is: I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat.”
Rebecca West

“Most people go through their lives believing in things that they never have much contact with - the police, lawyers, judges, and courts. They have an unstated belief in the system; that it'll be impartial, fair and just. But then there's the moment when it comes to them that the police, the courtroom, and the laws themselves are just human, vulnerable to the same shortcomings as all of us, that they're a mirror of who we are, and that's the heartbreaking dichotomy of it all - that the more contact you have with the law, the less belief you have.”
Craig Johnson, The Dark Horse

“Across the years I will walk with you -
in deep green forests; on shores of sand:
and when our time on earth is through,
in heaven, too, you will have my hand”
Robert Sexton
