But then it occurred to me that I've been trying to think of something to write here for almost two weeks and was blocked to come up with anything worthwhile I wanted to write. Which, bingo, means I suffered from writer's block.

Okay, so it's true. And now I'm writing, caution to the wind. How am I doing it? I literally just woke up (my eyes are still half closed), reached for my phone's notepad, and started thumb typing, errors and all, which I'll correct later. Why does this work? Because I'm not using my daytime critical brain that blocks just about every original thought about what I should write: Is it good enough? What will readers think? Is it not factually correct? And there you go. Writer's block before the words even bubble up from their source to make it out of my fingers and onto the page.

So, how do I deal with writer's block? I wake up in the morning and just start writing. Nonsense iat first, if that's what it takes. Because these are pure words based on free-flowing dreams, unhindered by daytime bosses or traffic lights. Only the best ideas from the night's dreams or subconscious thought. During the day, I stare at a monitor for eight hours and nothing comes out. At night, with my eyes closed, I stare at the back of my mind for eight hours and when my eyes open in the morning, the floodgates open and the words come pouring out onto the page.

And so here we are. After almost two weeks I thought of an answer to the question about how I get over writer's block. I don't think. I just wake up and write. I'll let the other me read this later. That other daytime me can be a real stickler sometimes. A real blocker.

I can hear that other me calling right now, "Stop writing, get up, you have to
go to work," and I'm starting to listen. But I like that other me, too, and I couldn't "write" without him. That other me is my editor. (PS: Note to daytime editor self: Don't delete this note later because I like it just the way it is.)
[Daytime editor's note back to morning self: Okay, I fixed only the typos. You sure do type poorly in the morning. But I like the content so I'll go ahead and post it. See you again later tonight. Keep up the good work. No writer's block here anymore.](less)

There's no cost to list your book in the Giveaway, although you do have the internal cost of sending a print version of your book to winners. I think this is a great way to reach new readers and promote your book.(less)

"A Question of Identity

I was as confused as Packet must have been as he struggled to find himself among the shards of memories and fantasies that attended his resurrection from the ashes of his father's hopes. Quite a story." Read more of this review »
