Shannon Hollinger is a Florida writer who spent as much time in college as she could, majoring in everything from zoology to archaeology. Almost a decade later, she finally emerged into the real world with degrees in Crime Scene Technology & Physical Anthropology. She finds writing to be a much cleaner way to spend her time than the autopsy suite. Most days it smells better, too.

Her short fiction has appeared in Suspense Magazine, Mystery Weekly, and The Saturday Evening Post, among a number of other magazines and anthologies. She has finished several novels, but spends too much time reading, writing, wrangling dogs and chasing butterflies, and not enough time querying agents.

Thursday’s Thoughts On Writing ~ Focus & Motivation

I don’t think that any writer needs to be told that getting published is a long, lonely journey up a very steep road. There are days where it feels like trekking up Mount Everest itself, gasping for breath, each inch gained a battle,  passing the bodies of those who came before you and failed along the way. I’m not going to lie – sometimes it feels pretty grim.

I occasionally wonder if it wouldn’t

This book is SO good! It has heart. It has horror. It has carnage. It’s both haunting and about a haunting. 😉 Stellar plot, creative and imaginative, and while it’s an old trope, it felt new. It’s the first book I’ve read in a while where I thought b ...more

This book had a good premise, developed the characters well and created a solid group dynamic. It delivered the creeps and the scares, and if you want to know how, just read the name. I enjoyed the story, but doubt I’ll be reading more in the series.

This book was smart! (Like seriously smart.) This escape room tale delivered everything I was hoping for & more with plenty of imagination, a high body count, & a twist that I feel like I should have seen coming but didn’t. My only complaint is that ...more

This was indie?!?! A creepy, slow burning ghost story with a twist that was dark in so many different ways! Imaginative, creative, and not afraid to deal the punches, this was more than I was expecting. Will definitely check out more of his books!

This was a fast paced book that I quickly devoured. It felt a little amateurish at times, but the premise - a killer loose at an all night rave called Survive The Night where you aren't allowed to leave - had me hooked. I did enjoy this story, but I ...more

This one is what I would call a very slow burner. It’s long, and for a while it’s dry, and then it slowly picks up the pace until all of a sudden, wham! Scary good times! It tends to meander in a most circuitous way – although all threads are tied to ...more

The title says it all! Written in the 50s, this book might be a bit out of date and a little hokey at times, but that didn’t keep be from loving it! Creepy and atmospheric, this one is a study in how you do it right! There’s no doubt that Jackson has ...more

This book kept me guessing! I liked the podcast aspect, and the crime – a girl who supposedly killed her best friend while they were celebrating a witchcraft ritual in the woods – was certainly compelling. Dark and chilling, this story had me hooked!

I didn’t like this one quite as much as Dumplin’. It took me a while to warm up to the characters. That said, once the story got underway, I was feeling it. It had that mix of feel good, wrong righting, everything will turn out all right warm fuzzies ...more
