Originally from the Southwest, J.B. Kish moved to Portland, Oregon, in 2012. He spends his weekends in a walk-in closet turned office working on his third novel, Little Fires. His first novel, The Midnight Club and New London, was written under the name John Cartier.

Really, it boils…moreWriter's block is an interesting concept. It's not that I don't believe in it—I do—but I think we give it more power than necessary. Really, it boils down to being okay with the fact that you're going to have good writing days and crap writing days. The trick is to not give up when you have those crap days. That's when most indie authors walk away, when in fact, they should be doubling down. Write one paragraph. Go out of your way to make it as bad as you possibly can. Then come back the next day and edit. Then come back the day after that and edit a little more. Don't be tricked into thinking all great writers can churn out fifteen chapters in one night. Plenty of good books were written one sentence at a time. (less)
