The Voices of Good Friday – Part 1

[image error]In the rush to Easter we often overlook Good Friday. "Yes, that's when Jesus was crucified," we say, "but He rose again."

For the next few weeks I'd like to imagine what we would hear if we spoke to...

Hero Tales

[image error]I love hearing stories of heroism—of people who take ordinary opportunities and turn them into spiritual victories. Yesterday while talking to a childhood friend of mine I heard such a tale.

A Fortunate Affliction?

Sunday evening Mary's 7-year-old son developed an earache. They tried eardrops and ibuprofen, but nothing worked. About 8:30 p.m. she took him to a tiny 24-hour clinic, trying to get him some relief for the night. While she sat in the empty waiting room and filled out paperwork, a...

Ladylike Behavior?

"What was she doing here? Returning to Mexico didn't seem so bad compared to the shame of what she planned. True, if there was anyone who could help her, it was this man. And if there was anyone she'd like to visit with or work beside, it was he. But alas, he didn't return her regard. He'd purposely avoided her for over a month now. Yet here she was in the middle of the night with instructions to go to his bed and ask for money." - Sixty Acres and a Bride

All I Know about the Old Testament I Learned from Veggie Tales

[image error]I spent many hours of my childhood in Sunday School looking at Technicolor pictures of the parables hung on the basement walls. I attended VBS, drank the watered down Kool-Aid, ate the animal crackers and colored pictures of the fruits of the spirit. I went to Discipleship training before church on Sunday night, and then went to "big" church for another hour after that. If anyone should have the Old Testament stories nailed down, it's me.

But along came a cautious tomato and a dingy cucumber a...

Don’t Believe Everything She Says

My sister Trina is giving me a break from posting this week as I get the synopsis for another book turned in. Despite the rhyming names we aren’t twins – and I won’t tell you who’s the oldest. For pictures of her and four of my adorable nephews please visit her blog atilovebannerboys.blogspot.com.

Here’s Trina -

It used to be that I asked Regina (Gina, to me) to write things for me, but now that she’s gone and got all busy and important, I’m filling in for her. She asked me to repost my blog fr...

Launch Party

The prospect of book signings has always made me nervous. I'm one of those people who skip the buildings at the fair that hold the vendors. I hate to see their hopeful expressions as I make my way down the corridor.

"Here she comes. I bet she has jewelry to be cleaned, I bet she needs vinyl siding, I bet….nevermind. She only wanted the free salsa sample."

Would I be the same?
