Maybe days will go by and I still don't write. Maybe a month. And then, quite suddenly, maybe I'll write a lot in one sitting. A lot I don't really even have to edit because I'm so pleased with it. Maybe I do that all day. Maybe a few days in a row. Maybe I even finish something. It's nothing to pin down. Write when you should. And do all of the things that inform the writing when you can't actually write words. Go outside and just sit there. Take the world's shortest walk. Let your mind wander. That's where writing comes from.(less)

I'm talkin Rilo Kiley, Bright Eyes, basically the Saddle Creek sound in general, as well as Gillian Welch, Ben Folds, Cake, and more. Here's hoping that when I finish it the tunes will be happily included for the going rate.(less)

"Kicking this up to five. It's lumpy and oddly paced as ever, but in hindsight the amount of the landing it was able to stick is just incredible.

To my mind the Harry Potter novels are about two things, the acceptance of death and the changes wrought " Read more of this review »
