I've been in constant pain for about 30 years, due to a disability. When I'm "tuned in" as a writer, the effort becomes a useful distraction. Pain is not just physical. It has emotional aspects. Any type of powerful distraction (movies, books, sports, hobbies, etc.) present a viable behavior to reduce the grip of severe pain. (less)

Love in the Age of Darkness (Religion & Spirituality)
1 chapters   —   updated May 13, 2015 06:30PM
Description: For Jews, the bitter taste of expulsion, slavery and genocide has been a constant companion. Their ancestral homeland, Israel, has been conquered repeatedly; their sacred temples destroyed. For more than two thousand years, the Jewish people have been deliberately exterminated; the survivors scattered throughout the Diaspora. Meanwhile, Jews remained largely as they had always been throughout time. They studied Torah, worked jobs that no one else desired, married, had families and passed along cherished values to their progeny. Surprisingly, those values have changed little over time, despite near-constant efforts to isolate, expel, enslave and murder the Hebrew people. Then the Holocaust arrived. Here, among the ashes of vast genocide, despite the efforts of Nazi Germany to destroy the Jewish people, one can feel hope for the survival of the human spirit.
A Culture of Genocide (History)
1 chapters   —   updated Feb 04, 2011 09:43AM
Description: In writing about the Shoah (Holocaust), I was forced to examine human behavior during the most appalling and perfidious genocide in history. How could apparently normal people become willing accomplices in the murder of their Jewish neighbors? What persuaded German citizens, and their allies (Einsatzgruppen), along with many other Europeans, to believe that all members of the Jewish religion should be destroyed? Why did they also accept as appropriate the euthenasia of homosexuals, Roma and the physically and mentally disabled? Why was it so easy to convince citizens that their healthy, friendly neighbors should be exterminated?
Book Marketing 101 (Literature & Fiction)

Description: Congratulations! You have found a publisher well suited to your book. The contract has been signed. You are a published author! What’s next? What will your publisher do? What should you do to enhance the publisher’s efforts?
Happiness and the Human Mind (Religion & Spirituality)
1 chapters   —   updated May 31, 2009 02:17PM
Description: There is a great deal more to our personality than the ubiquitous battleground of good versus evil. Happiness has a great deal to do with our principles and morality. We have the capacity to grow beyond our self-centered ego. Happiness results from the discovery of our inner balance between emotions and values.
What Happens When We Die? (Religion & Spirituality)
1 chapters   —   updated May 31, 2009 02:08PM
Description: There are as many opinions about the potential for an afterlife as there are stars in the sky. In the absence of science, when giant leaps of faith leave us wanting, we must turn to logic.

Jeannie Faulkner Barber Hey Charles, thanks for adding me as a friend. If you have a chance, I'd love for you to visit my web site, jeanniebarber.com. I'm a novice writer so feel free to make any kind of suggestions, ideas or thoughts to correct it. I’m co-authoring a novel with Patty Wiseman, another friend on Goodreads. We’ve known each other for over 30 years. While you're there, please sign the guestbook, too! There’s also a link to our book you can click on…clairkelley@synthasite.com. This site is brand new and in the editing stage as is our story. Please visit it as well. We’re both very green, but we’ve met so many people on this site willing to reach out and offer advice or a guiding hand, we feel very blessed.
Thanks,
Jeannie
