Thursday Time: Wii

Will someone tell me who’s the genius that decided the best sound for the Wii board to make when a person steps on it, is a surprised Geez-How-Much-Do-You-Weigh, “OH!”?

Wednesday Woe

One of my writing buddies was telling me about an app/software you use to shut down your internet access for a period of time (y’know, when simply unplugging the modem isn’t enough to get you writing)…I’m Googling all kinds of irrelevant, time-wasting garbage and thinking there may be more to this program than I originally thought…

The wind feels wonderful.

I like it, a lot.

You could say The wind is feeling wonderful and I am liking it a lot, but it just sounds weird.  The nice thing about this type of verb is that, in my mind, it’s related to the telling verbs. I wonder if I looked at the state of the character/subject in my sentence, if I could tighten my writing…worth thinking about…

WHIV is a Fresh Pick

How cool is that?

Fresh Fiction picked What Happens in Vegas as their Fresh Pick:

The Fresh Pick is chosen by a group of readers and is never a purchased advertisement or promotion. We've picked this book because it appeals to us and we like to share our diverse tastes in reading and hope you'll give it a try. To purchase, visit TWRP, Kindle, or B&N

YAY! FRIDAY!!

Felt a lot like these cows, this week. Between the furry cuddles & Sarah B’s King of Anything, however, I’m feeling less inclined to murder…

funny pictures - Evil Cows: RetribMOOtion

cute animals - Daily Squee: Interspecies Love: Big Friend Kisses

Quick Question

Am I the only one who saw this add and DID NOT think it was an advertisement for a clothing store so much as a shopping mart for—ahem—ladies of the night?  Seriously, am I getting old or is fashion now telling women the hooker look is the new black?

Wednesday Woe: Someone Please Explain…

how well-written, well-acted shows like Awake get cancelled but the Swiss cheese plot & write-by-number-cardboard-thin character melodramas are getting renewed?

Technique Tuesday: Feel the Burn

Been working on the edits of Grime 2 and feeling the burn of trying to complete edits, tighten writing, and make the description vivid…and really feeling the temptation to quit because the sense of inadequacy surrounding me…but then I have to remind myself this is how Writer’s Block begins: trying to outthink the writing, trying to forecast the future while staying in the present.  And so there is only one thing to do: feel the burn and keep writing.

Mechanical Monday: The Perfect Progressive Tenses

The PPT describes an action just completed or an action that’s occurring right before a second event.

Clear as mud? Yeah, me too. I find this stuff confusing when it’s defined, but a little simpler when I see it.

The PPT form is have + been + present participle (ing)

I have been trying to figure out PPT for years, now.

I had been trying to figure out the PPT but then I decided I’d rather eat chocolate.

By this time tomorrow, I will have eaten seven pounds of chocolate while trying to figure...
