I live the artist's life. I tell stories. I write. I love history.

I play harp and fiddle. I garden whenever I can and I love to walk to clear my mind for creativity.

My studio is purple with large windows. My cat Dot sleeps on my desk. The other two cats, Her Highness Dasha and Her Majesty Kashka, come visit sometimes, as does my husband. Yes, I am a hermit when deadlines loom.

I specialize in storytelling with at-risk youth, abused women, and communities following disaster.

Teaching and sharing is a very important part of my work.

I took some time off from working on it at that point, but not from thinking or talking about it. I have found that sometimes telling about a story will unlock the writing. I think, many times, writer's block is about being either distracted or not well in some way. You need to listen to that.(less)

Right now, I am expanding my short story "Zeus' Fire" from the new steampunk anthology Gears of Brass.

As soon as I wrote it, I knew I had a bigger story to tell. Like all writing projects, there's a lot of work to do on it, and then I have one agent and one publisher who want to see it. There's no guarantee. That's why you write for the love of the story.(less)

Dorothy Annie Lorna, I am an author, I wrote a love story based in the 60's an 70's. Reaching deep into my heart to bring out painful memories and storie. I feel I did it against all odds. I have degenerative arthritis in both hands, glaucoma in both eyes, I have dyslexia. I have never typed a word or used a computer. I bought one, learned to turn it on and hunt and pecked a 420 page novel It was in the top Writer Digest contest for new writers. I then wrote the squeal, Starling Darling by Dorothy Annie Schritt. My family isn't laughing at me anymore, but every friend I had in Nebraska no longer speaks to me, nor have they thanked me for my signed copies. I wrote this to heal from the past, and now the books have caused me much more pain today. But I wrote from my heart. Please read my novels.
Thank you Lorna,
Dorothy Annie Schritt aka Dottie Meakins
