Some lovely reviews for
72 Hours
:From Mickie Ashling at Live Journal and Goodreads:
Clare London's characters are so terribly real you can almost smell, taste, and feel the high tension throughout the entire novel. The deep and abiding love between Niall and Tanner jumps off the page and if they would only pay attention to their unspoken signals the sexy bits would have come a lot sooner. And the sex was very, very good...as was the drama, and the mystery. A 4.5 read and highly recommended.
From Sensual Reads :
72 Hours is written like a diary with the time marching by for us to see. Suspense built with the danger they faced to both their lives and their hearts. Claire London will have you burning the midnight oil to finish this book as you will not want to put it down. She increases the pleasure as she masterfully draws out the plot to keep us hooked. Added to this are some rather intriguing secondary characters including an intrepid dog. Captivating reading from beginning to end, 72 Hours is sure to please all of Clare London’s readers and add more.

LET IT THAW, LET IT THAW...
Well, I know some of the UK is still suffering, but at least in my part of South London the snow is finally thawing. That's not to say it won't snow again, but for the time being, I don't have to wear Ugg boots just to go down to the compost bin. And that's ok, because I don't know where they are at the moment. I lent them to a girl at Son#2's party on Monday night because she only had ballet pumps that got ruined in the snow (*sighs for a 16-year-old to think about sensible shoes*) and I haven't found them since...
And that leads on to The Party Post-Mortem *heh*.
Thanks FList, for seeing me through the drama this week LOL. Son#2's 16th birthday party was rescheduled to Monday night and we girded our loins. But to be honest, it went very well and the damage - physical and emotional - was minimal.
We had about 60 guests, all dressed up beautifully, lovely to see. Lots of squee and shrieks and singing too loudly and jumping up-n-down dancing. Best thing we ever did was to hire the mess tent for our garden. It opened straight from our patio door/window, ran the length of the garden, and gave us the same floor space again as the rest of the house. Hubby made a makeshift wooden floor for it so they weren't all dancing on the grass, and it worked a treat. They fell on the food as if they hadn't been fed for a week (probably hadn't, the size of some of those slinky dresses) and pizzas delivered at 9.30 were a particular hit!
Of course we had the drama...
One falling down the stairs (it was her heels), one being sick (made it to the bathroom, thank god), one broke with her boyfriend, two had full vodka bottles confiscated at the door on entry. I was on bar duty, rationing the drinks quite closely, and we actually shut down to anything but water for an hour during the evening. Son#1's girlfriend was a great support to me - with 2 other friends, thanks to them - and she showed especial Glee in going around the upstairs rooms on Snog-Watch duty. Considering these girls are only 3 years older than the party guests, they seemed to be slipping into the 'older generation' already LOL.
At midnight, after the music had been off for an hour and several parent/chauffeurs had come and gone, we still had a dozen or so milling around and needing to camp over. Yes, I know I could have put them in the tent, but can you see the news headlines the next day when they were found frozen to the azaleas?! So Son#1 stepped into the breach finding bedding, setting out campbeds on the living room floor, forcing them all to drink plenty of water (from his personal experience of a good night out *heh*) and then yelling at them to shut up and go to b****y sleep when the small hours of the morning rolled around. I mean, we all know a sleepover means stay-up-and-yatter-all-night-over.
Or that's how I was told it went, because at that point I turned tail and ran, went to sleep at my sister's house while she's away for Xmas. I had to go into work the next day, plus I get VERY tense if I can't get my sleep when I need to. Oh, any my bed was covered with boxes of stuff we'd cleared away from the other rooms in the house in anticipation of The Invasion. So what's a gal to do?
But seriously, it was a success all round and - as always in our house - An Experience. Not necessarily one we'll repeat too soon, but there you are. Trouble now is that Hubby and I are still exhausted, shadows of our former selves, I'm behind with the routine washing and shopping, and all our downstairs possessions are still in boxes. Including my laptop *arrggh*, so I'm limited on my online life until things get straight again.
And you know what? I've been too damned tired to care LOL.
So now we just have to get ready for Son#1's 21st *next* week. At least that's in a pub and fully catered, and he's sorting out (ok, so his girlfriend is *heh*) his music and decorations. We just provide the money (isn't that the norm) and the embarrassing - but still very necessary - older-adult presence.
Ho hum, and a Happy Yule to all ♥
And that leads on to The Party Post-Mortem *heh*.

A DAY OF MYSTERY, MISERY AND THE WHITE STUFF...

Come and visit this Woman of Mystery at the new
Carina Mystery and Romantic Suspense Blog
. I'm sharing the day with
Shirley Wells
, a fellow Brit author, and we're blogging about Christmas traditions, food and murder :).

Leave a comment on our post and you'll be entered for the chance to win BOTH of our books, my Blinded by Our Eyes and Shirley's Presumed Dead .
And in Other News???
It's SNOWING again here!
It's settling, I can't see the car, I'm due to go out in an hour's time to go to the hairdressers - does Mother Nature not realise the critical importance of these periodic journeys, both to keep me (borderline) pretty and also to keep my spirits raised?! LMAO
Seriously, and WORST of all - it's Son#2's 16th party tonight. We have a huge mess tent set up in the garden and the floors cleared and a pile of sausage rolls to be cooked.
Ain't gonna happen unless it stops :(.
We're going to give it until 2pm then postpone it if the snow hasn't stopped. They're off school now for Christmas, so they could hold it next week if needs be. But his girlfriend - whose 16th birthday it is as well, and who's joint host of the party - is in floods of tears I understand.
OMG.

CLARE AND CHRISSY do Christmas Crackers....
Clare: Welcome to the middle of December, and for those who celebrate, the mid-point of the Holiday frenzy.
Chrissy: How are you enjoying that White Christmas so far?

Clare: London's unexpected snowfall is quite beautiful to look at, but as regards travel? Hideous!
Chrissy: I could sing carols to you if it would help your mood?
Clare: *blinks hard* I'll pass. I don't know about your December, but at my house there's always a rush of friends, family, and social events that are desired (and not so much) to attend to. All tossed into the pressure cooker of end of year responsibilities at work and FOUR close family birthdays to celebrate :).

Chrissy: Luckily, we have The Clare and Chrissy Show to distract us from all of this.
Clare: *Phew* on that. *Wink*.
Chrissy: We tossed about quite a few topics for our last post of the year, and decided to focus on one aspect of the holiday season we all have run into a time or two before.
Clare: The All Important Gift.

Chrissy: Or at least, the worst gift.
Clare: bwhahahaha.
Chrissy: If the vast amount of pressure presented by retailers in their advertisements are to be believed there's a lot riding on a simple gift choice.
Clare: You mean, there IS no Perfect Gift? *rips up Xmas shopping list*

Chrissy: Everyone has their own idea of what makes the "perfect gift". It's a tangled web of personal preference and social expectations. Quantity versus quality. Jewelry vs. clothing. From those who love to give or receive gift cards with a cash value, to those who would contemplate divorce if their significant other dared to hand them an envelope and said "have at it".
Clare: There are some who don't do gifts at all. Choosing instead to spread their holiday cheer throughout the community with deeds of service.
Chrissy: Whatever the tradition in your household there's one facet of gift giving we've all experienced. The badly chosen, or poor gift. Otherwise known as the WTF? Gift.
Clare: We'll share a few of ours, then we'd love for you to share a few of yours. Mention no names, please, and remember this is in light-hearted jest, not a chance to stab back at some hated relative, or offend some well-meaning but style-deprived friend.
Chrissy: *trash cans the sister-in-law story* Ahem, and not that we're trolling for last-minute gift ideas of our own. I'm quite sure both Clare and I are on top of this holiday thing. Right?
Clare: Holiday thing? Speak for yourself. *mutters* *unravels previously ripped-up shopping list*.
Chrissy: I have a girlfriend who uses the after-Christmas sales to work on her next year's Gift List. She leaves me speechless in awe. I think of her every December 23rd when I'm circling the aisles in my favorite, 24 hour drug store seriously contemplating that $9.99 electric can opener as a gift idea.

Clare: No! Don't tell me you've actually done that?
Chrissy: Be nice or I'll return the Snuggie and Clapper I bought for you this year. *Sniffs* Besides, it was a better option than the personal, nose-hair groomer.
Clare: And all those things we Brits say about US TV adverts... Yeppers. TRUE. Though, sadly, I quite fancy one of those Snuggie things...
Chrissy: There's a certain mystery behind a really good (or bad) WTF? Gift. The eternal question of what were they thinking?
Clare: Yes, friends, I got one of these toilet roll covers, one year. I mean, what's that all about? *sigh*
Chrissy: Imagine the asthmatic when faced with a gift box full of scent guaranteed to bring on a bout of wheezing. The vegetarian left with a lapful of smoked salmon.
Clare: The voluptuous and lovingly-curved daughter-in-law faced with a size 2 petite jumper when she gave her size as a 2x.

Chrissy: One of my favorite WTF? Gifts moments was watching a friend unwrap a Tamagotchi. Do you remember those? They were small, digital pets on a key chain. You were supposed to push buttons at various times to feed and walk them and help them grow through various stages. Cute and highly desired in 1996 if you were a teenage girl. Not so welcome if you happened to be a 44-year old male. All I can say is that to this day if you want to hear a ranty-mcRant just ask him about that gift.

Clare: Those moments stay in the memory, don't they? (yes, I got one of these potato mashers, too, before you ask if it's some kind of perverted sex toy...). When all I ever really wanted was....

Chrissy: Chocolate? Rose wine? More e-books? A new coat? A new outfit?
Clare: A new body, more like...LOL. Maybe this article will give us all some new ideas, whether for good or bad: 10 Best Gift Ideas for Bloggers.
Chrissy: *temporarily speechless at the ideas therein and vaguely creeped out by the graphic used*

Clare: So to finish, I'd just like to announce that I HAVE found The Perfect Gift ... and here it is! Yes, kids, they are indeed chocolate shoes!! *mwahahaha*
Chrissy: *pets Clare* It's all the snow, you know. She's not used to it over there. She'll be okay by New Year...
Clare: *munching on the last word*.
So what were some of your favorite WTF? Gift moments over the years? Did you receive anything that can top Clare's toilet paper roll cover? Did you spend weeks searching for the perfect gift and have it received with less than sparkling enthusiasm? What are your thoughts on gift cards? Are they everything you've hoped for or just a sign of laziness?
Everyone who comments to this post will be entered in our random drawing with two lucky winners receiving their choice of a free eBook download from any one of the Clare and Chrissy entries in this year's Dreamspinner Press 2010 Advent Calendar. Winners to be announced in our next, monthly post.

This story follows Garry who is in an airport in Scotland waiting for his friend Will (so they can go on Holiday with their friends) who was supposed to get in only an hour after Garry. Well there's a delay and he ends up waiting 10 hours! Garry has a thing for Will but Will is taking a job and moving from London to America. So Garry waits for Will during The Delay and in the time he waits he gets a lot of thinking done about himself and Will as well as getting quite a bit of great insight from 2 children who more or less adopt him during his time at the airport. I loved this book. It was funny and had that dry sense of humor that I love to read. The interactions with the children as well as Garry's inner thoughts had me flipping pages as fast as I could - and when I was done, I started from the beginning and read it again. Just a great novella. This is definitely a romance but there is no sex involved - just to let you know. lol 5 out of 5

Out in Print Queer Book Reviews
:
The very first sentence of London's "Freeman," sets a tone of indomitable noir... The read gradually eases into storytelling less noir, and more reflective of London's talent for providing the reader with the protagonist's turmoil, strengths, insecurities, and always—to the final word of novel—his mystery. Who is Freeman? We never really get to the essence of who this man really is...
Enter now the young man—George's kept boy from the ugly bar—who Freeman quite tentatively, certainly warily allows to step into his life. The young man will not reveal his name (for good reason) to Freeman, so Freeman nicknames him Kit...perhaps an apt moniker for the long-haired, headstrong, lithe, horny, barely-legal kid he proves to be...
London's forte with this tale is clearly, at once, her passion to keep Freeman as a rather amorphous character, whose past is cloudy, not really defined. That we, as readers, might want to know more about Freeman is perhaps London's tease; something that—as she gives us a wink and a sly smile—she might, just might expose in future works. We await the exposure. Freeman is, after all, a character we want to know.

This is a tale of heartache, struggle, determination, abiding love and the life of a man, his people, and their history ...
Maen is a warrior, a Gold Warrior, the highest rank among soldiers. He is honorable, courageous, well respected, and the property of Mistress Luana. He has no say in his own life, no right to feelings or his own ambitions, he is a slave. Maybe a well known, respected slave, but a slave none-the-less. He is also blindly unaware of his own servitude. Yes, he knows that he must report and obey his Mistress, but he believes with absolute certainty that is how his life should be, that having feelings other than that of devotion to someone or something other than the City and his Mistress would be a horrendous weakness of character. Until he meets a young man named Dax.
Dax is intelligent, handsome and growing into a courageous warrior. He is also inquisitive by nature and questions everything. He questions his duty, the rules, their life, the power of the Mistresses and the value of taking the medicine. He becomes the catalyst of change; change for men, the City and a brave Gold Warrior...
This story was inspiring, horrifying at times and endearing. One that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys angst filled stories of love and courage.

One thing to say about this book is that is defies being pigeon-holed. In some sense it's a fantasy SF, set on some distant planet which had been colonised in the far past of the start of the story. In fact it's probably more of a fantasy than it is a romance (although the ending is certainly very strong romantically) because the heroes, Maen and Dax, are apart for the majority of the novel. Instead the focus is more on the society of Aza City, the political machinations of the ruling female class and Maen's gradual shift from loyal servant of the city to rebel. Then again, it would be difficult to define what part of the fantasy genre it fits into either. It's not high fantasy, although there are elements of high fantasy within it, nor could it be labelled wholly SF as there are none of the gadgets that fit with that, nor could it be labelled as wholly futuristic, because we are never told where the humans who live in Aza City came from originally. In the end, I gave up trying to apportion a label and decided that defying convention made for a rather unique story.
Overall, this book was one which provided a rich, lush and vivid setting with a story of the struggle for freedom and love in a repressive society. In some ways I don't really feel I've done justice in this review to the scale of the worldbuilding or the intricacies of the plot and I would urge all fantasy fans, especially those who want to spend time immersed in a unique story, to read Branded as I think it would be something you would enjoy.

Me, I'm called the Chameleon by most because I can blend in or stand out, whatever's needed to get the job done. Yep, that's me Tanner Mackay...
Hmmm, it seems that I'm not completely persona non grata because Judith and company, including Niall have shown up on my doorstep, my rickety trash trailer doorstep. Someone or someones are trying to kill us, first it was accidents, however today it was a bomb at Niall's apartment. Looks like I'm back in whether I or they want it."
Intrigue, attempted murder, and scorching hot sex are the name of the game in 72 Hours. Told in first person narrative, 72 Hours builds suspense and drama as Tanner talks about the team, his relationship with Niall, and the danger they face. The romance is hot and heavy, the plot is interesting, but it may seem unnecessarily long at times. Tanner's self depreciating monologues are engaging, which is the true charm of this tale. 72 Hours has a lusty romance within an original whodunit.

:This story follows Garry who is in an airport in Scotland waiting for his friend Will (so they can go on Holiday with their friends) who was supposed to get in only an hour after Garry.

:The very first sentence of London's "Freeman," sets a tone of indomitable noir...

Michele 'n Jeff's Reviews
:This is a tale of heartache, struggle, determination, abiding love and the life of a man, his people, and their history ...

COME BLOG WITH ME for my January birthday

Well, inspired by the Fabulous time I had last year...
January is my birthday month and also the start of the New Year (obviously). I'm looking forward to posting something every day in January, some fiction snippets, some pictures, some thoughts, jokes etc etc, to mark the occasion!
And I'd love you to JOIN ME!!There's a list of free days on this post beneath the cut (embarrassingly empty at the moment), just comment to grab a day for yourself, to come and say hello. I'll keep a running Calendar of links for the month so people can nip back and forth to read and watch what we've produced.
Here's an updated version of the notes I posted before:
What the hell does 'joining you' mean?Share whatever you like with us - what you're working on, fiction or art - what you're reading or watching - what's delighted you - what's fascinated you - what's made your little heart beat faster - what or who you've been ogling. And if I have spare days, I'll add some of my own stuff, or link to some (much better than mine) blogs.
Yeah, right. And what are the rules?NONE!!! No pressure, no specific theme, no qualifications needed, no restrictions (apart from public decency, respect for others and a civil tongue of course), no judgement, no minimum/maximum word count, just come and say hello in your way*. Pimp your work, strut your stuff, offer a free read or a contest, pat yourself on the back. Stir up some constructive discussion, comment on things historical or topical, post a link, a pic, a line from a song, a snippet of fiction, a meme, an icon, a moan, a laugh (me and my lists...).
It'd be GREAT to have some snippet fiction from my author friends - does anyone fancy writing to a 'birthday' prompt? We can post the fics at the end of the month :).
Um...Why should I join in at all?Well, it's entirely your choice, but it's an opportunity to have some fun, practice your LJ / promo skills, just have a chat with friends. And it'd be great to build something from my LJ Friends, just for the month.
And everyone who takes part will get entered in a draw for a free download of my story Threadbare, to be released in January from JMS Books .
So how's this going to work?Email your stuff to me a few days before your turn. Then I'll post it on to the journal on The Day. I can add pictures or whatever you'd like. Drop back during the day - and hopefully afterwards too, to catch up with amy comments.
N.B. If you don't have a Live Journal account, you can still follow the month and make comments too - and even take part, as I'll post for you! But it's also easy enough to set up an account for your chosen name, and a useful blog tool for those who maybe don't have one at the moment.
OK, now starts the panic when I worry that no one will dip a toe in the water. Please don't hold back if you're even slightly tempted LOL.
Comment here (or my email clarelondon11@hotmail.com / clarelondon11@yahoo.co.uk) to choose your date, or if you have questions or just need me to turn the puppy eyes on you and beg :).
