Clearly I didn't learn my lesson the first time

Remember the shop that had some issues when I bought brown rice? I went back. In the words of daughter, "Uh-oh." I firmly believe people should step out of the mall and into their town centres. To stop the suburbia-ooze of the area, and keep the town alive. Oh - and it's closer. Now, there are two schools in the area. One is on the far end of the road with nothing but the beach after...so to get there and back you pass by the shop. This shop is also directly down the hill from the other schoo...

I think it's official

I've become a Brink fan. A bit late to the party, perhaps - I'll blame my age (in a good way). Truly rubbish photo of two I've read somewhat recently: The Rights of Desire USA, UK, RSA Praying Mantis USA, UK, RSA t already stock them.) The Rights of Desire echos much of what is in Before I Forget (or perhaps it is the other way around). Praying Mantis is set in the t...

Husband better keep working

I enjoyed my life on the island, better known as the United Kingdom. The NHS was wonderful, the postal system is dearly missed and their newspapers still do this thing called...journalism. I gave birth to both my children on that island: and, child 1's passport needs to be renewed. The forms - rather straight forward. Believe me, I have many other forms from various countries to compare them too, and the forms get five stars. I filled them out. I found all the bits they needed. I filled out t...

A Date!

That's right - a date. A "go out with your partner and no kids" thing - where two adults enjoy each other's company - with no kids - that sort of thing. I just did that - with my husband - no kids - both of us, together - no kids! I have not gone out with my husband, alone, since June. Before that, March. Before that...December. Notice a trend? We've been babysitter less since December. On the rare occurrence we have family visit for more than the odd night - they do let us go out and play. U...

About more than losing your contacts

I've had surfing on the brain. I don't think I'll be good at it. I know I'll look ridiculous in the wet suite. And frankly, knowing me, I'd end up losing my contacts. For some people this isn't a big deal. Okay, they are annoyed and slightly inconvenienced. Hey, those things are expensive - oh and life becomes blurry. But it is a slightly bigger deal in my case, than most. My prescription on my contacts is -8.5. My real prescription for glasses is past the nines. That's right - I can't SEE! N...

Franken's Anti-Rape Amendment in peril

Article in The Huffington Post I know, people don't like blogs getting all political and preachy. I know. I wasn't even planning on blogging today. But...there's always a but... When have you EVER known me to keep my mouth shut?!!? Women - they must be the only minority group on earth that make up over 50% of the world's population. Women - They are your mothers, your sisters, your daughters, your wife...and a company contracted and paid by US tax dollars should represent the country in an ex...

Crap

Remember that post awhile back that featured my bizarre toilet? Here, I'll show ya the pic again: Said toilet is acting up. Spurting water and other displeasing noises have made me uneasy. Thankfully I have not had to phone for sledgehammer back up, yet - jiggling one of those buttons on top appear to be doing the trick - for now. But what if the button trick stops working? Me thinks I better figure out how to shut the water off before we get to that point. If any of my dear readers happen to...

A slight change of pace

The Writing Circle, by Rozena Maart US, UK, SA I have to this point only posted books I can, with out a doubt, praise to the fullest. I don't believe this blog's purpose is to slam books. Even on goodreads where I post the dreaded "two star" review - if the book was not, in my opinion, worthy of being read - I don't put it up. I'm not a book reviewer - and often the "poor reviews" I read, be it theatre or restaurant, often reveal more about the writer's snobbishness than the item on review. T...

Naming your darlings

A poet once told me that to be a successful artist or writer you must be willing to kill your darlings. The character that is so dear to your heart you spare all hardship to, may, in itself, be hurting your story. So crucify 'em! Um. Well...so back to my point, which I never got to in the first place, before you can kill off your darlings, you must name them. What a pain in the ass! I, and I say this in all seriousness, find it easier to name my children, than "my darlings." There are some wo...
