We're raising future world citizens, you know
Since there appears to be no separation of church and State in South Africa, my son comes home with many new "praise" songs. This includes the one titled, "Fishing for Jesus," which he can now sing in both English and Afrikaans. The other day at the beach, my children have their "fishing" nets and are playing in the tide pools: "Look mummy, I'm fishing for Jesus..." I made waffles a few days back. The toppings were all rather sweet. Husband, just home from a rough day at work, pops open a Sav...

Kicking the Kindle
New article, same argument - pointing out that with Kindle...you don't "own" the book like you "own" a book. Mail & Guardian (RSA)

Makes you miss the English reserve
Totbaby was very excited about swimming lessons on Wednesday. Not even 6am and she was showing her daddy her "swim arms." She wouldn't get into the little pool to wait. No...wanted her teacher. As soon as she caught her teacher's eye she was off...until she hit a wet patch and slipped. Totbaby did not fall, but it spooked her and out came the "maaaaaaaamaaaaaaaaa." Sigh. And we'd been doing so well. I'm not surprised. I deal with this at ball-skills. Everything will be fine - then some kid de...

Thankfully
The police certificate has finally arrived. When I went out for errands yesterday I had packed my passport and left enough time to do the whole thing over again. I almost went Monday - but had visions of me running after totbaby with my hands full of fingerprint ink through a police station...and thought one more day of waiting wouldn't hurt. Opened my post box on Tuesday and I had two pieces of mail...one to a lady I've never heard of - then the envelope - that I personally filled out - and ...

Unconfessed
I thought I had blogged about this one already - but it appears to not be the case. Isn't that a great title? Unconfessed by Yvette Christianse USA, UK, RSA A poetic novel based on a true story. For people who love literature and don't mind a bit of "work" to their brain while reading - this novel will reward you handsomely. People who enjoy their stories to be linear and light, then this probably will not be to your taste. That said, the book is breathtaking. I swear - the book sings. If you...

Oh no she didn't. . .
Oh yes she did. Tot baby did not scream at yesterday's swim lesson. She looked at her teacher and jumped right in. Lucky lesson number 13. Wee bit more than 4 or 5 - but my kids are special.

Over-the-shoulder-bolder-holders
Or maybe that only describes mine when I'm nursing. . . Some of you may have noticed a comment in my last post from a lovely lady named Mel thanking me for my bras. Don't know what you were thinking - but I'd like to elaborate for the greater good. To all you retired nursing mothers out there: there are many women would would adore your used nursing bras. No, really. Huge need, few donations. A donation - the cost of postage - and you'll know it is directly benefiting a woman (and her baby). ...

Jogging Our medical aid sends out a magazine every so often - ie "please take care of yourself so you don't end up using your insurance!" So at our Sunday morning table over oatmeal, husband opened it up to reveal article on "How to Start Jogging." Their program is a wee bit more aggressive than the other one. Week 2: Run 2min rest 2min - repeat. "I only managed two 2min sets on Friday," I moaned. Husband looked at me and pointed out that this program was probably designed for runners of fair...

T-shirt envy
Reading another blog where in the comments a woman wrote: I saw a t-shirt for little girls that said, "President, Not Princess." How awesome is that? I. Want. One. For. Tot. Girl.
