And I thought 'The Holy Grail' was fiction
I was never keen on a pet. I knew he'd be my problem, but finally gave in. I mean, how much trouble could one damn rabbit be? That is, so long as you don't let them gnaw the cords. Mr Fuzzy is on my shit list. Mr Fuzzy was the most mellow and sweet tempered rabbit you've ever met. Then Mr Fuzzy got balls. He is still the sweetest rabbit you've ever met if you are a woman. I am his favorite. He follows me around like a lap dog. In fact, he acts a lot like a dog without...

And reader, he laughed
I love recommending books. Love it. I think about what the person is like, what they enjoy, their humour (or lack of) and try to figure out what they would adore - yet not be a book they would pick up off the shelf. Mother-in-law was here. Due to a few other books she mentioned I promptly got out This Side of the Sky and handed it over. It is the best seller that wasn't. I lovely read, and I can't wait to hear her thoughts on it. Husband is a tricky beast. When we met he was not reading...

Lead us not into ...
A significant chunk of South Africa is on strike. Teachers, nurses...petrol station attendants. Rather interesting to all those people in 48 US states (or is it 49 now?) and the whole of United Kingdom who already pump their own petrol - this idea that petrol station attendants are necessary. I rather like them. Never mind the weather, I'd feel like a sitting duck "mug me!" filling up my own car. But never mind - they are now on strike and want a pay raise a wee bit under 50%. They are admitt...

Books by Women vs by Men
Holiday with Husbands sans kids may have been lovely, but it also made me behind. So as I race to catch up with the rest of my life, which plunges onwards regardless if I wish it to or not, I am skipping book day and instead refer you on to a thread on Jezebel: Why Book By Women Aren't Serious But do these issues really matter? Do they, for example, apply to South Africa? Well, if you read Fiona Snyckers observations on the upcoming Mail & Guardian's JHB Literary Festival - yes.

Sell Thyself!
If you have a moment I'd love your feedback on the blog's layout. Specifically - can you tell I'm a writer, too? Blog is a wee bit older than a year. I have many lovely blog readers. But an email here, an FB post there, a quip, a comment...a lot of blog readers (who I love dearly) are not actually aware that I write, have a book, that there are short stories to read. Are my links obscure? This is just the way of blog land? To clarify, I'm not insulted. Not at all. If Blog isn't "selling thyse...

In a land far, far, away...
Husband is back and he can see! Always a plus. Was a wee bit worried when the eye clinic phoned to ask if I was the wife of...in a very sombre voice. But apparently they just wanted me to swing on by and pick him up - from 5 hours away. His sister fetched him, given she was a good four and half hours or so closer. But now he is back and he brought his mother. 5 years 7 months and 25 days ago (if I've calculated correctly) I gave birth to my first born and...neither he nor his...

Only Wednesday?
Oh my brain. My poor brain. My brain has given up on life. This may be partly due to lack of sleep, some of which is my children's fault, but some of it to do with too much on the brain. The whole builder thing reached new heights last week. It all boiled down to a clear indication that the builders had no intention of moving to their side of the property, and every intention of continuing to bar us from a significant and rather essential part of our property.
