One should not be allowed to design a house unless one actually understands how homes are used.
Space is such an interesting concept. Take our house: it has lots of space. A British architect would crap her pants in delight on the possibilities, no longer forced to make odd decisions due to some Victorian's bizarre placement of structural support (and no vision for indoor plumbing.) Yet, the person who designed this house had one objective, and one objective only: to make the house look good. The catch is, we actually try to use it. Take our kitchen. Our kitchen should be a baker's dream. You want counter space - ta-da! – counter space. It looks sooooooooo lovely....

Life into FB status updates

Tired is the new black
For all those that read that last post and might be concerned that it went all Lord of Flies here, we're okay. I'm tired. But I have a working theory that tired is the new norm. Like how the new black is always some colour that is never black, these days. (Yet, we always really prefer the little black dress, no matter what the fashion experts say.) Tired is the new 'I'm fine'. Ever meet people fully rested? They stand out from the crowd like they were walking around naked. You notice. Fully rested people are not normal. But feeling...

This would be soooooooo funny
...if I wasn't the person living through it. Not the best day of my life. At least it began humorously. Thing 1: Ew, how'd you get that thing on your lip? Me: Oh, um, some guy kind of tapped me during karate last night. Thing 1: *sighs* Mummy, you're supposed to block. He proceeded with demonstrations. Aw, bless. But I've been busy. Husband has been busy. Life has been a bit nutty. Have had numerous conversations with Husband that go a bit like this, "Yes, we need to talk about that. Will do, after I get back from Durban." And...

I wasn't going to blog today. Oh, I'm so crazy arse busy. But, I saw this article: Interview with Modjaji Books. Listen, if you are a want-to-write or a writer who is at my stage (please, please, please read my ms!), then this is a must read. Enjoy.

The next adventure
It was an awkward moment: "You have a book?" Not that I expect everyone to know this about me. Hardly. But the person editing my work? Geepers, talk about being lousy at your own marketing. "Tiah, why are you not blogging on BookSA?" The short version is, because I'm not cool enough. Or, so I believed. A miscommunication over a year ago (lost email) was interpreted wrongly (by me) to mean: "I can't believe you call that writing a REAL book." Not that I can tell you what writing a real book is, other than writing a book and getting...

Homing
So much on my mind it makes it hard to articulate. Not necessarily good or bad. Just stuff. Stuff that could be great, or not so much. However, one thing that can be said for the current state that is now, is how much I've been touched. There have been people who have gone the extra mile for me as of late. These are not relatives, or people that know me very well. In fact, these are the sort of people that probably (do!) get plagued by pests wanting favours for this and that. And yet, to a panicked phone...

Rain watching
Today I am thankful for the rain. Never think so much about the wet stuff until you are almost out. Unless of course you have to haul it every day (check out Damaria's post on the wet stuff - very interesting.) The local area has made plan A, plan B, plan C and...and some of these plans don't go to plan. Take the idea of recycling water for things that don't need high water quality. For example you need to drink high quality water - your toilet does not need to be flushed with Evian. The difficulty is, while your...
