Pass the aspirin (then again, I'm allergic to the stuff)

Handed in the keys yesterday. Funny how much I didn't care. I felt no yearn to stay. Even the view wasn't doing much for me. The house, while beautiful and large, had never been very homey. Down right chilly and hostile. A house meant to be photographed but not lived in, at least by people like us. A mature couple with far too much furniture who walked around with martini glass permanently fixed in hand, perhaps. It was a solution to a very big problem (aka the millipede house of horrors). But we almost did not move into it originally...

Success and Failure as a Writer by Nava Atlas

Damaria sent me this wonderful link. Seemed selfish not to pass it on to the rest of you. :-) (No, Telkom has not come through. They are experiencing a 'technical difficulty' and I'm on 3G. It is a wee bit hit or miss over here...)

Books are unpacked (mostly)

And that is, of course, the part that matters most. My main bookshelf in 3 parts is: Then there are the ones in the coffee table, the wardrobe, the shelf, the other shelf thing and...oh yes, all the ones I left at my parents' place. Some people can't stop buy shoes, others can't stop buying...

How much should an ebook cost

The price of an ebook is all over the place, some people want 99 cents, other places charge 14 dollars. I am sure there is a happy medium here. One well written argument of why books can not be like A song off itunes is here (It is very good, do read it!!!!): One Art, please. I have 99 cents. Thanks to BookSA and Modjaji for the heads up on the link. With that, I say good-bye for at least another day (or many) as this whole moving things is starting to get pretty crazy. Tomorrow the internet is shut...

New Stories in Itch Magazine (including mine!)

Which for you, dear readers, is lucky because itch is online, thus you can read for free. First up, my story, because this is my blog: A letter from a spinster (age 50) to a gentelman (age 28). From two names you may recognize: Richard de Nooy entertains us with his musing Scanning 2010 for Blips & Bleeps of Wisdom. Judy Croome has a story Heros Day. A side note about Judy, she has proof read for me a few times when I was in a pinch. So kind, and we've yet to meet face to face. Lastly there is...

Wading Home should not be given away for free

Remember this post where I got a free book thanks to a tip from White Readers Meet Black Authors? Well, I finally got around to reading Wading Home, by Rosalyn Story (UK link here) and while I am thrilled I got to read this book - how bloody sad that the publishers had to GIVE IT AWAY to get the book any attention. I greatly enjoyed this meandering tale which spins a yarn so melancholy sweet, making the reader yearn for ice cold lemonade and red beans. If pressed to compare Rosalyn Story's style, I'd say Fannie Flagg with tabasco....

Like being interrupted during the moment

Audry Wilde sent me a link: Dress for the mailman No 8 on the list of things to keep in mind while writing at home is: 8. Know and accept that everyone else in the world thinks you can put down and pick up your chapter-in-progress at any time without missing a beat, as if our books were knitting projects. I know this all too well. Writer-at-work is tip-tapping along and bam, somebody bursts into the room. If looks could kill, the intruder would be dead. 'But...but...it is only a quick question!' Intruder says, furious for WAW for being so...

Looking for the end of the rainbow

It goes like this: Do writing work! Pack Move on the 25th Unpack Have dodgy internet connection for at least a month (may the 3G get a signal at new house). Children are off on holiday from the 25 of March to the 22nd of May with the exception of 9 lousy days. (Love them dearly, BUT!) Go to USA at end of June This is why I'm not sleeping much. Where is the time for No1 - work - in all of this? Ach!!!! I have submitted my pet project for the past year (aka love-of-my-life). Have already bought...
