And I used to work in PR...
I have just sent off the press release for the local Short Story Day South event to our local paper. Should have seen me stress while I tried to combine the local info with the standard SSDS press release. Thankfully a member of my writing group does lots and lots for the local paper and could guide me through it. Such patience. But I think we can tick that off as done (or I am hoping). Next, I am going to meet up with James Fouche, he of the novel Jack Hanger, who is also going to be speaking /...

Have battle plan
Have just returned from a delightful morning with Rita Blake, she who is organising Mossel Bay's Short Story Day South event. I love email. But sometimes it is soooooooooooooooooooo much easier to sort things out in person. We have a flexible plan in place and now we just need to start moving our chess pieces into action. (In some ways we have.) So things are looking up and I am becoming much more relaxed about it all. Win! For any of you that clicked on the link above, you may notice that there are now TWO events listed for Mossel...

Short Story Public Service Announcement
Since I've been roped into this Short Story Day South event I've had to do some actual talking to human beings. Strangely enough, it appears I know many more of these people than I thought, from Husband's work, to martial arts class, writers group, daughter's swim class, her school, his school - people letting me put up a little 'hi, I'll be HERE' sign in windows and promising to bring friends. May even twist the surf shop's arm and have a hunch the art shack may be willing, too. Then there are all the book clubs the organiser knows. Thus,...

On the brighter side of things...
Apparently, I have news of a more sunny nature to share. I will be reading (speaking?) on the 21st of June in Mossel Bay in honour of Short Story Day South. The specific details regarding the Mossel Bay event are here. Mossel Bay's motto is 'No hurry, no worries.' To pay tribute to that, we're still hammering out the details of exactly what will happen. But I have it on good authority that I can promise me, books and tea. The cake, however, is still being negotiated. (The website does say 'snacks' so you never know.) So if you are...

Why do people read what they do?
Book Live, which was BookSA, has been full of debates on how books are reviewed and what we should be reading, writing or doing with books. I have weighed in from time to time, for better or for worse. But in the back of mind during these discussions, which sometimes reach dizzily lofty heights, lurks the various reasons of why people read books. It isn't always for the pleasure of a work of art. Not that I am advocating for books like the cira 1980s Mills & Boon I read a few months back that had a '!' in every...

Q&A with Judy Croome
Hi Judy, welcome to my blog. Tiah, thanks so much for inviting me to your blog. You've asked questions that really got me thinking! Glad you liked the questions. I have been looking forward to hearing your answers. I hope the rest of my readers find it as interesting as I have. So first question: please tell us a bit about your book, Dancing in the Shadows of Love: The story explores the sacrifices people make in the pursuit of a love that transcends everyday existence. Lulu's quest, and that of Jamila and Zahra too, is to find the divine...

Home
We are home. We are very tired due to a security farce, which I can at least say ended well and no harm done. However, that whole relaxed feeling I had yesterday has vanished. Ah well, Wednesday is a public holiday so at least I can sleep in soon. In the meantime I am slowly hearing of people who were at the lit fest on Sunday who I never saw. So I probably DID walk right by peeps without a glance. Terribly sorry. I have such a reputation in town for this. To be fair to me, I drive a...
